Week 2, Term 3 (RCC)

Hello RCC children and families, welcome to our weekly blog!

In English, we focused on reviewing previously learnt graphemes/phonemes together with onset and rime patterns. Students learnt the heart words – for , have. They talked about what they know about the letter. They identified that sometimes letters may sound different, and that some letters look similar in both uppercase and lower case. Children are also practicing writing sentences with correct spacing, upper case letter for first letter of first word and a full stop.

In Book Making – the children were engaged in a discussion about what makes an information book.  They also decided whether to make a narrative story book or an information book.

The following list represents the students who decided to create an information book and their chosen topics.

In Maths, the students worked on counting collections to 20.

In Religion, the students developed an understanding that the Bible is a sacred text in the Catholic Faith and explored its significance through storytelling and activities.

In Science, the students explored different types of materials in the environment and recorded their observations using illustrations.

Brain Break- Time to be a Super Hero !

Research has shown that standing in a superhero pose for 60 seconds each day can help increase self confidence.  The students excitedly posed as their favourite super hero during their Brain Break time.

In health, the students developed the understanding of the functions of different parts of their body and how to take care of them with a focus on hygiene and self-care.

In HASS, the students drew a pictorial map of the playground in their Learning Journals as they observed, described and recorded the features of the place.

Notes:

  • The students have three breaks for food each day. In the morning, they eat their fruits (referred to as ‘brain food’), followed by recess and lunch.
  • Assembly on week 5 .

Hello REB Families, welcome to our Week 2 Blog!

This week in English we:

-Continued to focus on finger spaces and staying on the lines. It has been so wonderful to see each child processing in this area!

-started our new bookmaking spotlight on information texts. We compared information texts and narratives and began our own books on topics that we know lots of facts about.

In Maths we:

-counted and represented collections to 20

-revised writing numerals

-continued to represent numbers through number mats

In Religion we:

-discussed the Bible and how it is used in Catholic practices. We read the story ‘Noah’s Ark’ and re-told the story through drawings.

In HASS we:

-used our senses and emerging understanding of ‘features’ to draw our playgound.

In Arts and Technologies we:

-explored the different flags of the countries competing in the Olympics. We then made our own Flags, taking into consideration our own backgrounds.

Week 1, Term 3 (RCC)

Hello RCC children and families. Welcome to our weekly blog !

We are so blessed to have Kaiser in our classroom and our learning community.

This week:

In English, we reviewed previously learnt Grapheme and Phonemes, introduced onset and rime words.  We co-constructed sentences, ensured writing sentences with correct spacing, upper case letter for first letter of first word and a full stop.

Children are excited to write their Information book in “Book Making” sessions. They are choosing different topics , such as bugs, farm and butterflies.

In Maths, we reviewed counting,  numbers, numeral, subitising. Children represented numbers on number line. They developed the understanding about more, fewer, less, equal and worked on numbers that are more than or less than a given  number.

In HASS, our Learning Intention was to introduce the ways we can observe, describe and record the features of a familiar place. It was a fun experience as we talked about our senses and went to explore our the outdoor classroom environment, find out all the different features we can touch, feel, see, hear and smell. Children recorded their observation through drawing.

In Health, we talked about body awareness, different parts of the body and the importance of privacy.

In religion, we discussed ‘God will always love me as I am’. Students developed the understanding that they are unique and special, and that their individual qualities are valued and cherished by God. They are loved unconditionally by God, just as they are. We also watched the video of Bible story that illustrates God’s love ‘The Good Shepherd’ and ‘Jesus blesses the children’.

Friday afternoon was very special for RCC classroom as our buddies from 5KH , Dhyani, Massa, Ethan and Hendrix came to help in different types of art and craft, construction experiences.

Week 10 Term 2 (RCC) 2024.

Dear RCC families and children, welcome to our weekly blog!  As we conclude Term 2, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful learning journey we have experienced together. This term has been filled with joy, curiosity, creativity and significant individual development.

The children have shown growth in their early literacy and numeracy skills. From recognizing letters and numbers to beginning to read and count confidently, each child has made remarkable progress. It’s been a delight to see their excitement as they discover new concepts, and engage in hands-on learning activities. Technology, Drama, Art and craft sessions have been a highlight, with students expressing their creativity through various projects. They have also enjoyed exploring the world around them in our HASS and Science studies, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm. Developed the understanding religions through Religious Education.

The joy of learning has been evident everyday. Whether working together in a small group, participating in lively discussions, or simply sharing a story, the classroom has been a place of laughter and discovery.

The support and involvement of the families have been invaluable. Thank you for encouraging your child’s learning journey and being active participants in their education.

As we enter holiday break, I hope you all enjoy a restful and joyful time with your loved ones. Take this opportunity to relax, recharge, and create beautiful memories together. Have a wonderful holiday!
