Week 2 in RFL

Welcome to week 2!

In English, we dove into the world of the letter i and letter f, we also focused on reading words. in our book-making session was all about diagrams. We introduced the concept of using simple diagrams to represent ideas visually.

In Maths, we took a big step forward by introducing double-digit numbers. The children explored how to read, write, and understand numbers like 10, 20, and beyond. We also practiced counting up to 100.

In religion, we learned about Noah’s Ark.

In health, we learned about hygiene and self-care.

In science, we focused on objects and their purposes.

Week 2 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 2 Blog.

 

This week in English we:

-focused on the our new letter/sound ‘b’. We used this sound to build and write words.

-participated in independent writing, where we wrote sentence independently, ensuring we had capital letters, full stops and spaces between words.

-learnt new tricky words ‘her’ and ‘his’

-read decodable books in our literacy groups

-read the poem ‘Beehive’ in our shared reading sessions

-learnt about/created diagrams for our information books.

This week in Maths we:

-created number lines (0-20)

-played games looking at what is 1 more than and one less than

-discovered patterns in 100 charts.

This week HASS/Art & technologies we began our artist study on ‘Jimmy Pike’ an Aboriginal artist. We researched the land that Jimmy Pike came from and learnt the significance of land and nature to Aboriginal people. We used Jimmy Pike’s work to inspire our self portraits.

 

TRY AT HOME:

-SET 1-5 tricky words in home reading diary. Read and write words.

-find things that start with the sound ‘b’

-can you sound out and write the words ‘bat’  ‘bop’  ‘bit’

 

Week 1 in RFL

Welcome to week 1 in Term 3!

In English, we focused on the letters and sounds p and i, learning how they come together to form words. We also explored informational texts, discovering how they provide facts and knowledge in an exciting way.

In Maths, we worked on ordering numbers from 1 to 20, strengthening our understanding of number sequences and patterns through hands-on activities.

In religion, we focused on the creation story.

In health, we learned about body parts and their functions.

– Practice writing and reading words like Sam, mat, map, sit, tap, pat, at, am, it, pit, and tip together.

Week 1 in REB

Welcome back to Term 3!

 

This week in English we:

-focused on the letters/sounds ‘u’ and ‘k’, using these sounds in our reading and writing.

-became Brave Spellers. Doing ‘brave spelling’ will be a big focus this term. Students are encouraged to stretch out the word they are wanting to write and use their letter/sound knowledge and tricky words to write sentence. We are also adding capital letters and full stops to our sentences

-began writing our information texts.

-read decodable readers that feature our learnt sounds and tricky words

 

 

 

In maths we are revising numbers 0-20 (with a challenge to 100). We participated in group investigations and applied our knowledge to create number lines.

 

TRY AT HOME

-read and write the new tricky words ‘has’ and ‘were’ and say sentences with these words

-ask your child what words start with the sounds ‘u’ and ‘k’

-write and read the words  ‘kip’ ‘kid’  ‘kit’ ‘up’ ‘rug’ ‘tug’

 

 

 

 

Week 10 in RFL

Welcome to week 10!

In English, we dove deep into the letter A and its sound. The children practiced blending three sounds together to form words, like /m/a/t/ to make mat.

Across other subjects, we focused on wrapping up the term. The students completed their final assessments and enjoyed some fun activities with our buddy class.

Try at home:

Encourage your child to keep practicing their phonics skills! Try blending three sounds together to make words at home, like /l/e/g/ to form leg.

Week 9 in RFL

Welcome to Week 9!

In English,we dove into the letters M, S, and T, practicing their sounds and shapes. The kids also worked on stretching words into three sounds, like breaking “cat” into /c/ /a/ /t/. In book making, We studied Mo Willems’ books, noticing how he crafts engaging beginnings and endings. The children tried writing their own words to create mini-stories, inspired by his style.

In maths, our focus was on duration—understanding how long things take.

In health, we discussed rules in games and why they matter for fair play.

In science, we explore push and pull forces.

In religion, we learned about different types of prayers, focusing on thanksgiving.

Try at Home:

Help your child practice stretching words into three sounds! Pick simple words like log, moon, fish, or house, and say each sound slowly (/l/ /o/ /g/). Make it a game to see how many words they can stretch!

 

 

Week 9 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 9 blog.

 

This week in English we:

-engaged with activities with a focus on the letter/sound ‘g’

-discussed what is a capital letter? and when do we use them?

-introduced the new tricky words ‘said’ and ‘you’.

-used the sounds and tricky words learnt so far to create sentences.

-played bingo bus in our literacy groups

 

This week in Maths we learnt about duration and how it measures time.

Week 8 in RFL

Welcome to week 8!

In English, we focused on the letters s and m, and in bookmaking, we practiced adding and sounding out words in our stories.

In Maths, we explored measurement by comparing light and heavy objects.

 

In HASS, we learned how to trace our steps and give directions step by step.

In Art, we were very proud to share our dioramas and outdoor area plans with the principal.

We also took part in Mission Week, which included a special Mass, visiting the Blessed Carlo Acutis exhibition, and enjoying Mission Day activities with the school community.

Learning in REB

Hello REB families, welcome to our blog.

This week was very full with school events and activities for Mission Week. Thank you so much to the families that donated some food, which we learnt will be donated to people less fortunate than us.

 

This week in English we have:

-engaged with activities based on the letter/sound ‘e’

-focused on writing and reading sentences using the sounds and tricky words we have learnt so far

-introduced the tricky words ‘they’ and ‘that’

-participated in reading groups using decodable readers and our sounds and words books

 

This week in Maths we focused on measuring Mass. We engaged iwth lots of hands on investigations applying the skill of hefting and making comparisons between objects.

 

Throughout the term in Design and Technologies and art, we have been designing an oudoor courtyard. We were very proud to finish our Dioramas this week and share them with Mr Platten.

Welcome to week 7!

In English, We focus on the letter and sound of ‘m’. In book making, we explored the use of headings and label.

In Maths, we explored the concept of capacity.

In science, we investigated four types of movements – bounce, roll, slide and spin

In Religion, we learned about symbols of prayer.

In Health, we focused on building friendships.

In HASS, we attempted to draw maps of the school oval.
