Week 1 , Term 2 in RFL

Dear RFL families,

Welcome to Term 2! We’ve had a fantastic first week.

Literacy

We worked on name writing, focusing on letter formation and pencil grip. The children also explored letter R, practicing its sound and spotting it in words. In book making, we read some books by Mo Willems and tried drawing his playful characters.

In Maths, we introduced teen numbers(11-19), using ten frames, counters and games to show how they’re made of one ‘ten’ and some ‘ones’.

In Heath, we discussed wants (like toys) versus needs (like food and water). The children shared great ideas about what’s essential.

In HASS, our topic was ‘what is a place?’We talked about special places like home or school and what make them special.

In Religion, we learned about churches as places for worship and community.

In Science, we explored movement, experimenting with pushing, pulling, and rolling objects like balls and cars.

Week 1 in REB

Dear Families,

Welcome back to term 2. I hope you managed to spend some quality time with your family over the Easter break.

We have wasted no time in re-connecting with each other and diving straight into our learning.

The outline for this term is as follows:

English

Students read, view and comprehend texts. They identify the language features of texts including connections between print and images. They name the letters of the English alphabet and know and use the most common sounds (phonemes) represented by these letters (graphs). They read words including consonant–vowel–consonant words and some high-frequency words.

Mathematics

Number

Students compare the size of collections to at least 20. They partition and combine collections up to 10 in different ways, representing these with numbers. Students represent practical situations that involve quantifying, equal sharing, adding to and taking away from collections.

Measurement

Students identify the attributes of mass, capacity, length and duration, and use direct comparison strategies to compare objects and events.

HASS

Students recognise the features of familiar places, why some places are special to people and the ways they can care for them.

Science

They identify factors that influence the movement of objects.Students pose questions and make predictions based on their experiences.

Technologies

They create a designed solution for a school-selected context. Students create, communicate and choose design ideas. They follow steps and use materials and equipment to safely make a designed solution.

Arts

Students use play, imagination, arts knowledge, processes and/or skills to create and share arts works in different forms.

NOTICES/REMINDERS

Reading Diaries: Can be kept in children’s bags. These are optional and used as a way to encourage students to read regularly and reflect on the books that they read. You will be notified when to start the focus words at the back of the book.

Term 1 Week 10 in RFL

Hello, lovely RFL families! Week 10 has been full of learning and fun. Here’s a quick look at what your children have been up to.

In English, we enjoyed reading Possum in the House—the kids loved the possum’s adventures! We practiced writing our names and worked on the letters s, t, m, a, and p. They also stretched out words to hear each sound and tried spelling them—great progress there! In book making, we looked at the books we’ve created, making sure every page has drawings and writing.

In Maths, we explored patterns. The children created their own using colors and shapes, then continued patterns we started together. It was exciting to see their creativity shine.

Wednesday brought Market Day, and what a treat it was! The classroom was buzzing as the kids traded, shared, and had a fantastic time. Ask them about it—they’ll have stories to share!

For Science, we made habitat crafts with paper plates, imagining homes for animals with trees, water, and more.

In HASS, we talked about our likes and dislikes, learning what makes us special.

Health was all about using school items safely, and the children shared some clever ideas.

In Religion, we explored the Easter story, reflecting on new beginnings.

Term 1 Week 9 in RFL

Dear RFL Families,

I hope you’re all doing well! I wanted to apologise for not being with you last week—Term 1, Week 9—as I was unwell and had to take some time to recover. I missed being with your amazing children and appreciate your patience while I was out. I’ve put together a little update on what the class explored during that time so you can talk about it with your little ones at home.

In English, they focused on the letter “a” and its sound, practicing how to write it and working on writing their names. They also read Farmer John’s Tractor by Sally Sutton. In book making, the focus was on keeping characters consistent—like having them wear the same clothes across pages.

For math, they learned about patterns (something that repeats) and tried making their own using actions, shapes, or toys.

In art, they experimented with drawing different kinds of lines—wavy, zig-zag, straight

In science, they continued exploring the animals at MUDLA, learning about their needs and habitats.

In health, the discussion was about things they can do, things they’re learning to do, and keeping a good mindset about it all.

In religion, they talked about the Last Supper, reflecting on its meaning.

Thank you for your understanding while I was away—I’m looking forward to being back with the class soon.

Term 1 Week 8 in RFL

Hello RFL families! Week 8 was packed with fun learning. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

In English, we practiced name writing, explored the letter ‘t’ (and sound) in InitiaLit, revised letter/sound ‘s’, and worked on segmenting and blending. In bookmaking, we drew people in different sizes and clothes.

In Maths, we continued learning about shapes and their attributes.

In Science, we kept studying predators and prey.

In Religion, we celebrated Palm Sunday.

In HASS, we marked Harmony Day with a long paper chain.

We also introduced the children to their Year 5 Buddy class! They enjoyed playful learning together—such a special way to connect.
In Health, we talked about “safe hands” and what hands can do—like waving or helping.

The children were amazing, and we’re so proud of them! Thanks for your support at home.
