Week 8 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 8 blog.

This week in English we:

-Focused on the letter/sound ‘s’ in InitiaLit. We practiced writing the letter s and discovered many words that begin with its sound

-Revised the letter M

-engaged with segmenting and blending games

-focused on setting and backgrounds in bo0kmaking. We discovered ways to show the weather/ time of day and gave this a go in our own books.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This week in Maths we continued our unit on shapes. We engaged with rotations where we made shapes and identified shapes by their attributes.

Week 7 in RFL

Hello RFL families,

We’ve had a great week 7 packed with learning and fun.

In English, we practiced on name writing and focused on the letter M and S. We also read Bogtrotter by Margaret Wild, a fun story about a little creature who trots through the bog. For book making, we tried adding movement lines to show actions, designed character hair and clothes, and picked weather to set the scene.

 

In Maths, we learned about shapes and counted the sides of circles, squares and triangles. We zoomed in on triangles (3 sides, 3 corners).

 

In HASS, we conmpleted the “All about Me” flower to explore our identity. Each petal shared something special – favourite foods, colours, or hobbies.

 

In Science, we explored predators and prey.

 

In Health, we talked about emergencies and practiced saying “000” for help and learned who to call in a tricky situation.

In Religion, we talked about how Jesus showed love to others and how we can be loving every day by showing kindness, just like Jesus did.

 

Week 7 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 7 blog.

This week in English we:

-introduced the letter ‘M’ and explored the sound it makes. We discovered words that start with this sound together and practiced writing it.

-revised onset and rime, rhyme and syllable in Initialit

-Used the text ‘Thunderstorm dancing’ in our story book lessons.

-explored more authors that include crafting devices (such as movement lines and emotions). We continued to add these devices to our own books as we edited them

 

In Maths we introduced a new unit on Shape. We discussed what a shape is and practiced the the skill of categorising objects based on their attributes.

 

 

In Science we looked at the data (photos) collected at the MUDLA in previous weeks and used this to document a living being and its needs for survival.

 

 

 

RFL Term 1 Week 6

Hello RFL families, welcome to our week 6 blog.

This week in English we:

-revised syllables and rhyme through InitaLit activities and learnt about ‘Onset & Rime’ as well as the letter M and its sound

-read ‘Grandpa and Thomas’ and engaged with activities based on the text

-participated in a variety of writing experiences, including letter formation and name writing

-introduced how we can draw different actions and emotions in book making

In Maths this week we introduced a new unit on ‘equal sharing.

  

In science this week we practiced matching some of the Australian animals to their habitats, we practiced the skills of observing and summarising what animals need and what they have in their natural habitats.

In HASS this week we learned about our family history and how the past shapes our lives, we shared special things we do with our families.

In Religion this week we we held a class liturgy, where we learnt about Lent and received ashes.

In Health we learned about ‘body signals’ and how different parts of our body can feel different, when we are feeling different emotions.

In Technologies we practiced using the app ‘draw and tell’

Week 6 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 6 blog.

This week in English we:

-revised syllables and rhyme through initalit activities and learnt about ‘Onset & Rime’

-Read ‘Bogtrotter’ and engaged with activities based on the text

-participated in a variety of writing experiences, including letter formation, name writing and writing headings on our work

-Introduced a new spotlight for our book making.. ‘Illustrations’. We looked at how authors use movement lines to show that characters are moving. We gave this a go in our own books.

 

 

In Maths this week we introduced a new unit on ‘equal sharing. We had many discussions around what ‘equal’ means and practiced sharing objects equally through many hands on investigations.

This week in science we practiced the skills of observing, documenting and summarising as we drew and labelled our bean plants.

In Religion we held a class liturgy, where we learnt about Lent and received ashes.

 

In Health we learnt about ‘body signals’ and how different parts of our body can feel different, when we are feeling different emotions.

RFL Term 1 Week 5

Dear RFL families,

 

We have had another fantastic week in week 5! Our Students have been busy exploring new concepts, developing their skills, and having lots of fun along the way.

This week in literacy, we focused on syllables and rhyming words. Students practiced clapping out syllables in different words, helping them to recognise how words are broken down into smaller parts.

 

In Maths, we explored the concept of subitising – the ability to recognise the number of objects in a group without counting them one by one.

 

In technologies, we introduced students to the Draw and Tell app.

RFL Term 1 Week 4

Dear RFL Families,

We had a fantastic week of learning in week 4! The students have been engaged in various activities across all subjects, showing great enthusiasm and curiosity.

 

In English, we learned about rhyming, letter recognition and book making.

 

In Maths, we focused on counting skills and number recognition. They participated in hands-on activities to reinforce their understanding of numbers, including games, counting exercises and crafts.

Week 5 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 5 blog.

This week in English we:

-focused on rhyme and syllabification in our InitiaLit sessions

-engaged with the text ‘Grandpa and Thomas’ in our story book lessons

-finished our current books in bookmaking and read them to each other

-continued deepening our fine-motor skills and letter formation in handwriting activities.

 

 

This week in Maths we focused on subitising where we:

-participated in partner and class games

-made number books, representing numbers and quantities.

 

This week in science we were very excited to see our beans had begun to grow. We shared our observations verbally and through drawings in our bean diaries and made predictions as to what will happen next. We also visited the MUDLA, focussing on the different needs of the living beings and reading ‘Gus’ Written by Mr McArthy.

 

In HASS we engaged in discussions around how things change over time and looked at a variety of pictures of things from the past vs the present.

In Health we demonstrated our understanding of what are safe vs unsafe actions.

Week 4 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 4 blog.

This week we have welcomed Claudia Pisani to REB on Fridays. REB students have Miss Pisani as their PE teacher on Tuesdays and seemed thrilled that they would be learning with her now on Fridays too.

This week in English we:

-continued with our bookmaking, making sure that we had followed all the steps to finish our books

-focused on words and rhyming in our InitaLit sessions

-focused on the book ‘How to catch a Star’ in our story book sessions

 

This week in Maths we focused on number positioning and engaged in lots of number line activities.

 

This week in science we planted our beans. We discussed what our beans will need to survive and documented our observations in our Bean Diaries.
