Week 8 in RFL

Welcome to week 8!

In English, we focused on the letters s and m, and in bookmaking, we practiced adding and sounding out words in our stories.

In Maths, we explored measurement by comparing light and heavy objects.

 

In HASS, we learned how to trace our steps and give directions step by step.

In Art, we were very proud to share our dioramas and outdoor area plans with the principal.

We also took part in Mission Week, which included a special Mass, visiting the Blessed Carlo Acutis exhibition, and enjoying Mission Day activities with the school community.

Learning in REB

Hello REB families, welcome to our blog.

This week was very full with school events and activities for Mission Week. Thank you so much to the families that donated some food, which we learnt will be donated to people less fortunate than us.

 

This week in English we have:

-engaged with activities based on the letter/sound ‘e’

-focused on writing and reading sentences using the sounds and tricky words we have learnt so far

-introduced the tricky words ‘they’ and ‘that’

-participated in reading groups using decodable readers and our sounds and words books

 

This week in Maths we focused on measuring Mass. We engaged iwth lots of hands on investigations applying the skill of hefting and making comparisons between objects.

 

Throughout the term in Design and Technologies and art, we have been designing an oudoor courtyard. We were very proud to finish our Dioramas this week and share them with Mr Platten.

 

 

Try at home:

-Read and write set 1 and set 2 Tricky words (last page of home diary)

-what can you find that starts with sound ‘e’?

-can you tell me/write the sounds in   the words  ‘pet’.    ‘fed’     ‘hen’

Week 7 in RFL

Welcome to week 7!

In English, We focus on the letter and sound of ‘m’. In book making, we explored the use of headings and label.

In Maths, we explored the concept of capacity.

In science, we investigated four types of movements – bounce, roll, slide and spin

In Religion, we learned about symbols of prayer.

In Health, we focused on building friendships.

In HASS, we attempted to draw maps of the school oval.

Learning in REB

Dear Families,

We will be participating in a variety 0f Mission Week activities next week, including our Mission Day markets. We are seeking some donations, with all proceeds going to charity. Please find more information below.

 

 

Some learning in Maths:

We begin our new unit on. measurement, so far focusing on length and capacity. We have participated in lots of class investigations, applying new topic specific language such as ‘longer, shorter’ and ‘holds more, holds less’.

 

Some learning in English:

-We have learnt about the letter h and the sound that is makes.

-We have begun writing and reading sentences

-Introduction of more tricky words.

 

Try at home:

-what starts with the sound ‘h’

-can you write the letter h? (You can look up letter school in youtube)

-what sounds are in the words:    cat,  hot, tip, tap, mat? can you say and write them?

 

 

Term 2 week 6 RFL

Dear RFL families,

Welcome to Week 6!

In English, we explored onset and rime, helping students to break down and build words in fun and interactive ways.

In bookmaking sessions, the children got creative by adding speech and thinking bubbles to their stories – giving their characters voices and thoughts

Our story book lesson focused on the beautiful picture book Grandpa and Thomas

In Maths, we explored measurement, using language like shorter, taller, longer and shorter to compare and describe objects around us.

 

In Religion, we talked about the different places and times we can pray to God.

In HASS, we looked at birds-eye views and we tried drawing our rooms from above.

In Arts and Design, we brought our outdoor space to life by creating dioramas of our dream outdoor area.

In Science, we investigated what can spin.

 

TRY AT HOME:

onset and rime – say the beginning sound (onset) like “c-” and add it to the rime “-at” to make “cat”.

describe everyday objects — for example, which spoon is longer, which book is taller, or which toy is shorter.

 

NOTE: Please bring your library bag on Thursday June 12th, we will be visiting the library to borrow books .

Term 2 Week 5 in RFL

Dear RFL families,

Welcome to week 5 (reconciliation week)

In English, we continued to build phonological awareness by focusing on syllables and rhyming words. We engaged with the story  ‘The very Hungry Bear’ in our storybook lesson.

In Book Making, explored reception writing and worked on creating main characters in our own stories.

In Maths,we explored the concept of part-part-whole, helping children understand how numbers can be broken down and combined

In Science, we investigated what can and cannot bounce.

In Religion, we reflected on how we belong to our church community.

In Design and Arts, we explored bird’s-eye view and side view perspectives

In Health, we focused on safety at school and the rules at the oval.

Week 4 in REB

Hello REB Families, welcome to our week 5 blog.

 

This week in English we:

-listened to words and identified/wrote their initial sounds

-used our knowledge of the letter sounds we have learnt so far to build and write words.

-focused on the letter and sound ‘c’ in initialit.

-engaged with story ‘Magic Beach’ in our story book lessons

-explored how Mo Willams uses Big and Bold writing to show big emotions

-began learning ‘tricky words’ (sight words). Including:  ‘the’ ‘I’  ‘my’ ‘a’  ‘is’

 

This week in Maths we continued learning about part part whole operations through hands on investigations.

 

 

We have been put lots of time and effort into our assembly preparations over the last couple of weeks.

-can you build/write and words with the above sounds?

-Read the SET 1 tricky words with your child (back of the home reading diary)

Term 2 Week 4 in RFL

Welcome to week 4!

In English,we focused on written words and phonological awareness as well as name writing.We also practiced name writing, perfecting how we write our own names, and had a go at writing different words.

In Book Making, we explored the wonderful world of Mo Willems’ books. Inspired by his stories, we tried creating our own books with 1-2 characters and added speech bubbles.

In Math, we focused on the concept of part-part-whole, breaking down numbers to understand how they fit together.

In Art, we  voted on designs to enhance the outdoor area at the back of our classroom.

In HASS, we explored how places change over time, learning about the history and transformation of the world around us.

We also spent time preparing for our Friday Assembly, and all our hard work paid off.
