Welcome to Term 1, Week 2. The children are becoming more familiar with classroom routines and structures. We are learning how to get our minds and bodies ready for learning and following instructions and directions as we transition throughout the day.
In literacy this week we are continuing to practise writing and representing our names in different ways. Our phonological awareness focus is on syllabification (breaking down the syllables in words), rhyme and recognising ‘what a word is’ and how many words can be in a sentence. In bookmaking, the children published and shared their books on ‘About Me’. In phonics, we are learning the names and sounds of the letters S, A, T. In Numeracy, we are continuing to practise the ‘principles of counting’. We counted small objects placed in cups and the children displayed their counting knowledge ie. ‘I can count each object only once and say one number name for each object’, ‘When I count, I say the numbers in order’, ‘When I count the objects in a group, the last number I say tells me the total for the group’, ‘It doesn’t matter which order I count a group of objects in, the total will be the same’.
We had our first visit to the MUDLA Room; the children were so excited! Our favourite animals included the beaded dragon, the yabbies, the fish, the turtles and the green tree frog. We will continue to visit the MUDLA weekly for the next few weeks.
This is wonderful 😊 sounds like an Exciting week. Thank you Mrs Anibaldi
