RLY & RUF Blog – Week 8, Term 1, 2025

Dear RLY and RUF families and children, welcome to our weekly blog!

This week, children demonstrated their progress through assessments, showcasing their understanding in creative and meaningful ways. We are so proud of their efforts and the way they are growing in their learning journey.

The highlights of our week:

In English, we continued to work through the InitiaLit program and learnt about the letter ‘t’ making a /t/ sound. We reviewed the letters and sounds of m and s, and began practicing oral blending and segmenting. We read the book Possum in the House and engaged in craft activities to retell the story. In Bookmaking we explored the different ways illustrators choose to layout their books by learning about double page spreads and borders.

In Maths, we continued our unit of work on shapes and their attributes. We ended the week with an assessment about what makes a shape a shape and different ways of sorting them based on attributes.

In HASS, students discussed their families and who is in them. We then spoke about how we could find out more about our families by interviewing our parents. We then chose one person from our family to draw in our learning journal.

In Health, we learnt about Harmony Day and engaged in various craft activities and discussions about being kind to all people and accepting others in our lives and communities.

In Religion, we learnt about Lent through various activities and discussed Palm Sunday as well as what we would be able to give up for the duration of lent.

Reminders:

  • Kindly ensure that your child brings fruit, snacks, and lunch as we have three meal times each day.
  • Hats need to be brought to school each day or students will not be able to play outside and will need to stay in the shade.

Dear RLY and RUF families and children, welcome to our weekly blog!

We’ve had an engaging and exciting week in our classrooms! Our students have been actively participating in a variety of hands- on learning experiences, building their skills and confidence in different areas. From interactive group activities to independent exploration, it has been wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm shine!

This week, children demonstrated their progress through assessments, showcasing their understanding in creative and meaningful ways. We are so proud of their efforts and the way they are growing in their learning journey.

The highlights of our week:

In English, the children are actively engaged in the InitiaLit program, confidently participating in various movements and actions embedded in their learning activities. They have quickly embraced the rhythm of these routines, enhancing their understanding through interactive experiences. Additionally, they are becoming familiar with our bookmaking and are beginning to think creatively about their own book making , developing their early literacy skills in an exciting way. We commenced learning about our first letter/sound combination! This week we learnt about the letter ‘m’ making an /m/ sound. Ask your children about Maggie Mouse and what she likes to munch on!

In Maths, students continue their work on subtilising and introduced equal parts. We ended the week with another assessment that allowed the children to show their new developing understanding.

In HASS, students discussed their families and who is in them. We then spoke about how we could find out more about our families by interviewing our parents. We then chose one person from our family to draw in our learning journal.

In Health, we discussed warning signs in our bodies when we are feeling certain emotions and mapped them on an outline of a body.

In Religion, we learnt about Lent through various activities. We ate delicious pancakes on Tuesday and held our own liturgy in class for Ash Wednesday.

In Science we continued to discuss living beings and what they need to survive whilst also monitoring our bean seeds we germinated that are really starting to grow!

RLY & RUF blog – Week 4, Term 1, 2025.

Hello RLY and RUF families and welcome to the end of week 4!

We’ve been very busy this week commencing our InitiaLit program for English, working through some math assessments and of course finding time to build connections within our community through play!

Here is a quick run down of our week…

English:

This week we started our InitiaLit program. The first 12 lessons are focused on phonological awareness as a stepping stone to phonics and phonetics. The InitiaLit program has three main elements: Scripted whole group learning, small group and independent work, and Storybook lessons. So far this program has been working really well in our classes and we can’t wait to see where it takes us! We also continued with our bookmaking as we establish ourselves as authors and create our own books!

Maths:

We continued with our unit on numbers (0-10) where we focused on cardinality, conservation, making connections between numeral and quantity and subitising. We ended the week with an assessment where we created our own number lines with quantities underneath.

HaSS:

We learnt about how things change over time and looked at photos of old items such as telephones, cars, houses, watches etc and looked at what they look like now. We then discussed what was still the same about them and why they would be changing over time.

Health:

This week we learnt how to identify safe and unsafe situations and how to respond to them in a safe way.

Art:

We learnt about fundamental movements and the different ways we use our bodies to move and how this benefits us and helps us be successful in life (including dancing!)

Technologies:

We used the iPad’s this week to continue learning different math strategies.

Religion:

This week’s topic was ‘How do we talk to God?’. We did through through prayer circles and prayer songs.

Science:

We discussed what makes something living. We explored the attributes of living vs non living things. We then looked at what elements living beings need.

Reminders:

  • Library is on Tuesday’s. This is the only day you will need to bring library bags to school.
  • P.E. is on Monday’s so students need to wear their sports uniform on this day only.
  • We are a nut aware school – this means we cannot have nuts brought in to the classroom in any form due to the extreme risk posed to some students with anaphylaxis.
  • Hats need to be brought to school each day or students will not be able to play outside and will need to stay in the shade.
  • Breakfast club is offered to students who have not eaten that morning. It runs from 8:30-8:50 near the billabongs each day.
  • We have three eating times at school. Fruit time, recess and lunch. Please pack some fruit or yoghurt for brain food, snacks for recess, and lunch to make sure the children have enough food during the day!
  • We will be hosting our assembly (RLY and RUF) on Friday 14th March at 2:10 in the Hall. All are welcome!
  • We ask that all parents exit the classroom by 8:50am each day, we are here to help your children settle, put their lunchboxes away and engage in name writing. We ask this as we are now starting our lessons from 9am. It can become unsettling for other children to see parents staying in the classroom especially when they are missing their parents as well. Our principal Chris Platten will be coming through each morning to support this routine.
  • We also ask that you bring your children to school by 8:45am at the latest so we can start our day and your child does not miss out on our InitiaLit literacy block.

We look forward to seeing you all back for week 5!

Ms. Yeend and Ms. Farah.

We are so excited to start the school year off and have had so much fun getting to know all of our children and families this week!

It’s been a busy week of learning about new routines, the school environment and developing connections with each other. The first two weeks of the year will revolve around these things and then in week 3 we will start our new literacy program and delve deeper into the Foundation curriculum.

Here are a few key points to take note of:

P.E. uniform: RLY and RUF both have sports on Mondays so please dress your children in their P.E. uniform.

Library: RLY and RUF will both have library on Tuesdays. Each student will be provided with a library bag next week and they will be able to borrow 5 books from the library. In order to swap them over each week they will need to bring their library bag on Tuesdays only.

QKR app: You are able to order lunch, book the school bus 0r book OSHC through the QKR app on your phone.

Please ensure you have labelled all of your child’s belongings including hats, drink bottles, jumpers etc. If there is no name it can be very hard to find if it goes missing.

Thank you so much and enjoy your weekend!
