Dear families and children, welcome to our weekly Blog!
What a wonderful week we’ve had in RLY & RUF! Our young writers have been working hard to put their ideas into sentences, remembering those all-important finger spaces and full stops, and using their growing knowledge of sounds, letters, and blending. In Book Making, the classroom has been buzzing with excitement as children create their very own Information Books on their favourite topics – from fascinating ladybugs and beautiful butterflies to the mysteries of the ocean.
In Maths, we’ve been so proud to see the children’s growing confidence as they recognise numbers and practise adding and subtracting. Their smiles and enthusiasm show just how much they are enjoying their learning journey.
We encourage you to chat with your child about their book project – you’ll be amazed at how much they know and how proud they are of their work!
Dear families and children, welcome to our weekly Blog!
We’re so happy to welcome our Reception learners back for another exciting term of learning and growth. The children have settled in beautifully and are already engaging in a range of meaningful experiences across the curriculum.
In English, we continue to build our understanding of sounds, words, speaking, and writing. During bookmaking, the children have been introduced to information books and have started creating their very own!
In Mathematics, we are revisiting number concepts, identifying patterns, subitising, adding, and recognising numbers in different ways.
In Health, we are exploring the parts of our body and learning about their uses.
In HASS, we’ve been talking about places that are special to us and learning why some places are important to ourselves and to others.
In Visual Arts, the children have been introduced to Aboriginal artist Jimmy Pike. They have begun drawing with inspiration from his use of colour, pattern, and connection to Country.
We look forward to a term full of curiosity, creativity, and connection!
Dear families and children, welcome to our weekly Blog!
What an eventful and joyful week we’ve had in RLY & RUF! Our students amazed us with their creativity as they designed and built their own dioramas of playgrounds. The highlight was proudly presenting these imaginative creations to our Principal, Mr. Platten – a wonderful moment of celebration and pride for their hard work!
In English, we continued learning new sounds and letters, and the children are becoming more confident in blending sounds to read words. They’ve also begun writing simple sentences, remembering to use finger spaces – an exciting step in their literacy journey!
In Mathematics, we explored the concept of MASS through a hands-on experience at the log park. The children thoroughly enjoyed hefting different logs and comparing their weights – a perfect blend of play and learning.
Throughout the week, we also took part in meaningful activities to support Fred’s Van and Catherine House. With great enthusiasm, the children helped raise funds through our stall and attended Mass to reflect on the importance of giving to others.
Our ‘Can Sculpture’ built with donated cans.
Thank you for your continued support – what a wonderful week of learning, creativity, and compassion!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dear families, what a wonderful and engaging week we’ve had in RLY & RUF! The children have continued to amaze us with their enthusiasm, curiosity, and growing confidence as we explore and assess their learning across different areas.
In English, we are seeing great progress as students continue to develop their blending and segmenting skills. They’re becoming more confident readers, tackling new words—especially those tricky ones—with persistence and pride.
In Book making – Students are reviewing their works by following the strategies:
WAYS TO ADD WORDS (Week 6-9)
Goal: writers will add words to their books
In Mathematics, our focus has been on capacity. The children enjoyed hands-on activities, comparing how much different containers can hold, and using language like “full,” “empty,” and “half-full” to describe their observations.
Our Art and Technology sessions have sparked imagination and teamwork. The students worked to design maps of our playground and are now excitedly creating their own playground dioramas—each one a unique expression of their ideas and play experiences.
In Science, we’ve been exploring how things move. The children demonstrated their understanding by sorting a variety of objects into different types of movement—whether rolling, sliding, bouncing, or spinning!
We’re proud of the way each child is growing in their learning and how they are beginning to reflect on and share what they know. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and encouragement.

What a wonderful week it has been in RLY & RUF! 🌟
Our young learners have been buzzing with energy and curiosity as they continue to grow in leaps and bounds. It’s been such a joy to see their confidence —whether they’re writing stories, exploring numbers, or sharing and collaborating with friends.
In English, the students are becoming true storytellers, building on their skills and showing real progress in their writing and reading.
In Maths, we’ve been exploring measurement, length, height and building strong foundational understanding through hands-on activities.
In Health, a special highlight this week has been our discussions around healthy eating. The children have developed a strong understanding of the importance and benefits of eating healthy food. They were eager to identify different types of healthy foods and share their own ideas about making good food choices. It’s been lovely to see their enthusiasm and curiosity during these lessons!
Socially, the children continue to grow in confidence and kindness, working beautifully together and showing care and respect for one another.
Thank you for your continued support at home. We’re so proud of each child’s growth and look forward to another week full of learning, laughter and discovery!
This week’s Specks of Gold!
Dear families, what a wonderful and engaging week we’ve had in RLY and RUF!
This week was filled with rich learning experiences and active participation from all our students. From our classroom learning to the important assessments we undertook, the children showed focus, curiosity, and a great sense of pride in their efforts. We are incredibly proud of how they are growing as learners each day!
As part of Reconciliation Week, we explored the themes of love, kindness, and respect. The children participated in meaningful conversations and created beautiful paper hands to symbolise kindness, unity and friendship. These hands now brighten our garden, reminding us daily of the importance of working together and caring for one another.
In English, the children are continually learning new letters and sounds, and how these connect to written letters. They have been exploring consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words, and using their knowledge during story time and in their own book-making experiences. it’s been so exciting to see their ideas come to life through drawing and writing!
In Maths, students are learning Part – Part – Whole, which is a concept that helps children understand how numbers can be broken into two or more parts. For example, if the whole is 6, it can be made – 4 and 2, or 3 and 3. It is supporting them to build understanding of addition and subtraction.
In Health, children learned identifying Emotions in Others.
In Science, the children investigated how materials affect bouncing and described material properties.

Hello RLY and RUF families and welcome to our weekly blog!
Week 9 was a truly joyful and enriching week at our classrooms. Our students have been busy exploring new ideas and showing off their growing literacy and numeracy skills, all while getting to know the world around them a bit better. It’s been a week full of playful learning and assessments, where every moment was an opportunity for our students to shine. Their curiosity, laughter, and warm interactions remind us why our Reception year is so special, and we are grateful to see them thrive in our learning community.
In English, children are excelling in their phonological skills and demonstrating their understanding through assessments. They are also learning to understand the three parts of a story: beginning, middle and end. Their favourite activity is Book making. They use their creativity and critical thinking to design the layout of their own books. Students are also learning how to illustrate the weather, the day or night, and how to incorporate their drawings into their stories.
In Maths, children explored different patterns by identifying them in pictures and natural objects, as well as drawing and creating their own.
In HASS, students displayed their learning about their own identity.
“What makes Me, Me?”
Students used creative routes to show their likes/dislikes/beliefs and so forth.
In Health, students developed confidence and responsibility in completing everyday tasks by themselves. By the end of the lesson, students identified tasks they can do by themselves. Recognised that trying and practicing help them grow stronger and express confidence in their own abilities.
In Religious Education. students learned that Holy Thursday is the day when Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples and taught them about love and serving others.
In Science, students explored and identified the similarities and differences between animals and plants.
We look forward to another exciting and joyful week of learning ahead. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
