HASS – Reconciliation Week

Today we enjoyed this lovely story and illustrations.

We read through the Kaurna Acknowledgement and talked about what it means.

We would like to Acknowledge that the land we meet on today is the traditional lands for the Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their Country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.

Ryder: Kaurna people

Andreas: We be nice to people

Kunal: We be kind and helpful to the Kaurna people

Kayden: Being kind and good.

We talked about how we are recognising and thanking the Kaurna people for sharing the land we live, play and learn on.

Then we sang the song: Hand in Hand – below is the link

Hand in Hand – Play School song

We then reflected upon what it means:

Matilda: Loving the Aboriginal people

Evelyn: It was about Australia.

Andreas: They are friends

Kunal: He is doing an Australian song and some people are Kaurna.

Esrom: It is about being kind and sharing the land.

Ryder: You are friends.

Tanvi: Sharing the toys.

Kayden: Being nice to friends.

We then  talked about how we can be a friend to others and made a friendship bracelet.

The Three Little Pigs – the story continues

Yesterday the children drew a story map of the story ‘The Three Little pigs’. They needed to remember to include all the characters (The 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf) and the important parts of the setting, the 3 different  houses.

Today we explored retelling the story – through acting out the story as the children took upon the characters of the story. We encouraged the children to again use tone and facial expressions when retelling the story. Mr Norris, Mrs Rodgers, Joel and Avelyn acted out the story in front of the class first. Mr Norris was a great Big Bad Wolf  – he was very funny at the end of the story.

The children did a fantastic job in their groups taking upon different roles, taking turns  and retelling the story.

Casual Day Friday – May 21st

If you would like to wear casual clothes on Friday – please bring a can of soup/food for Fred’s Van.

St Vincent De Paul Society – Our local Conference in Salisbury work hard to assist people in need and combat social injustice. Members of the Society are people who live out their faith in action by visiting people in their homes to provide support, friendship, material and financial assistance. Those being assisted are often provided with clothing, furniture and household goods. Other services are provided in our local area including Fred’s Van. Fred’s Van is a band of volunteers who take a van out into the local northern areas at night in winter, offering hot food and drinks free of charge. The Society relies on support in the form of volunteers, financial donations and material goods.

Have a lovely night – see you tomorrow

Today we read the story of the three little pigs.

Then Miss Burden and I acted the story out using the  plush characters. We talked about using facial expression and different tone in our voice to tell a story.

The children were then asked to sit in a learning space in a group of 4. As a group the children were asked to talk about what character were they going to be in the story (The three little pigs) and how were they going to make the characters (puppets, plates, cups etc)

Then the prop preparation began, which then moved into the story telling/acting out phase. The children did a fantastic job working in groups and retelling this familiar story.
