Week 5 – Term 1

A marvelous week of learning in

R MR and R PN.

Enjoy this snapshot of learning from week 5. Please use the photos to spark conversation  with your child about the tasks and their learning.

Congratulations to Mattia who achieved 25 nights of reading – well done.

We all enjoy beginning our day with literacy and connections though conversation. After the children put their backpacks away they transition into the room through literacy games and activities. The children also use this time to read books and talk with their friends.

Word Study

Letter ‘Mm’ and Letter ‘Dd’

We engage in ‘word study’ tasks on Monday and Tuesday mornings. During this time the children explore letter sounds, formation and word building.

Word Study

After our hand writing task, the children engage in a fine motor task centered around the focus letter. This week we made paper mats and drew a cat sitting on the mat. On Tuesday we made mini dog books.

Book Making

On Wednesday and Thursday we are authors, busy creating books. The children add detailed drawings and brave 4 & 5 year old spelling and of course their names on the front (as the author).

Numeracy

This week the children have been sorting objects into groups using the characteristics of shapes, colour and size. We used a range of materials across the week and also worked independently and in small groups.

Play Investigations

The children enjoyed exploring favourite areas of play – marble run, duplo, craft and the home corner. The children also had the opportunity to use the laptop to explore numeracy games.

Art

On Wednesday we read the story – The artist who painted a blue horse by Eric Carle.

Then we watched a clip about the painting which inspired Eric Carle to write the book. Then we created our own art work – starting with our favourite colour and favourite animal.

Religion

What Is Lent and When Is It in 2022? — Lent's History and Symbolism

This week we had a liturgy on Wednesday for Ash Wednesday and on Friday we each made a Lenten promise.

Have a wonderful weekend – see you on Monday.
