Week 4 – Term 1

What a joyous week of learning in RPN and RMR.

Some highlights from the week:

Word Study- This week we focussed on the letters of ‘Ii’ and ‘Nn’. We practised writing the letters as we said the sounds and we also wrote words beginning with the letters. For the letter i, the students then created their own insect on a leaf and for the letter n, the students created their own necklace out of beads.

Book making- This week for book making, we have spoken about, ‘How I know when I have finished my book’. The things the students have to ask themselves is:

-Is my name on the front cover? (because I am the author)

-Do I have words in my book?

-Do I have pictures in my book?

-Are the pictures coloured in?

-Have I used every page?

-Have I read my book to a beanie boo?

Mathematics- This week we have been sorting objects into groups. We talked about sorting objects by colour, size and type. The students then sorted themselves into different groups. The students then explored the equipment in the classroom and had a go at sorting the objects into groups with a like feature.

Science- This week, we headed up to the MUDLA to do our science learning. We spoke about the four different things that animals need to survive; water, food, shelter and air. The students then chose an animal to draw. They then had to draw the four different things that animal needs in order to live. Some students had a try at labeling their picture.

Technologies- For technologies this week, we focused on cutting skills, gluing skills and folding skills. The students created their own paper spring. They then made an object to attach to their spring, which they then attached to a piece of card. Here is what the students created:

Week 2- Term 1

We have had a wonderful week in RPN and RMR. The students are well and truly into the routine of school, and have been a fantastic team of learners.

Week 2 highlights-

English– We started focusing on some letters and letter sounds this week. We did some learning around the letters Ss and Aa. We learnt about what sound these letters make, and discussed words  beginning with the sounds. The students practised writing the letters and some words beginning with the letters. They also made a snake and a tree with apples on it.

Letter Ss-

Letter Aa-

Book making- This week, we started our book making journey. The students had some fantastic ideas for their first book. We reinforced the idea that books have words and pictures. We also encouraged the students to re-read their books after they complete them.

Library- This week, the students borrowed some books from the library. They were able to borrow 3 leveled books and 2 pictures books. We encourage reading every night, with parents filling out the students’ yellow reading diary. Our library day is Monday. Students are asked to bring their library books to school every day. Happy reading!

Religion- Who is God?

For religion, we had a discussion about God. We asked the students what they knew about God. After this, we watched the creation story. The students then had to draw what they think God looks like and some things that God created.

Science- Animals

Each week the students will go up to the MUDLA for a science lesson. At the moment we will be learning about animals. There are many different types of animals present in the MUDLA. The students enjoyed visiting the MUDLA and doing their learning in there.

Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday. 🙂
