Week 3 – Term 1

What a wonderful week of learning in R PN and R MR.

Some of the highlights from Week 3.

English

This week we learnt about the letter ‘Tt’ and the letter ‘Pp’. We explored letter formation, the sounds the letters make  and words which begin with each letter. After the handwriting task we engage in a fine motor activity which strengthens coordination to support the formation of each letter.  Fine motor activities are important for the coordination and manipulation of writing tools and scissors. This week we made a turtle from cardboard and a paper plate threading pan.

Book Making

Our amazing authors are continuing to create wonderful books about topics of interest. The children are also being brave 4 and 5 year old spellers as they add words to their books. The children are becoming familiar with our book making session routine – we begin with a a mini lesson, where an aspect about book making is intentionally taught (this week it was about books have words and pictures and what do we do when we finish our books?), followed by a writing session and then finishing off with a sharing circle, where we celebrate and consolidate learning.

Numeracy

Number Line: This week we explored number formation and sequencing of numbers to 10. To explore this concept one of the activities we did was to create a number line.

Number Song

Week 1 – Term 1

What a wonderful 3 days we have had in R MR & R PN. We have seen the children using their character strengths of bravery, persistence, kindness, humour and resilience.

We have had a busy week exploring the school and becoming familiar with the classroom and our new routines. During the first few weeks our focus is on building a community of learners and the classroom is a place where we learn and feel safe and happy.

Week 1 – Highlights

Welcome to Reception 2022

Starting our day with “Come Read with Me”. A time to make connections through conversation and literacy. The children have the opportunity to read with their friends, talk together and engage with literacy activities, which is a wonderful way to start our day.

English

What is writing? Where do we see writing?

In our class we are all writers. We talked about how we can write letters using lines, circles and shapes. Then our super star learners show us what they can write.

Literacy Task: Humpty Dumpty rhyme.

After we shared the Humpty Dumpty rhyme the children recalled the rhyme.

We talked about words that rhymed and tried to think of as many words that rhyme with ‘wall’. We talked about words that rhyme and words that don’t.

Does wall and ball rhyme?

Does ball and book rhyme?

The children then drew a picture of the rhyme, trying to remember all of the characters and parts of the story.

Numeracy Investigations

Number – Where do we see numbers?

After our discussion we moved into numeracy investigations and explored number, shapes, patterns.

I wonder how many numbers you can see at home?

Play Investigations

As children play they are leading their learning through exploring their ideas and interests.

During play the children are using disposition for learning, such as creativity, leadership, communication, negotiation, problem solving and persistence, These disposition are important to have as life long learners.

Play Investigation Questions:

Who did you play with?

What did you play with?

What was the best part of play investigations?
Did you learn something new?

Did you have any problems to solve?

Reminders for next week:

Monday –  Library – If your child was at school last year can you please bring their black bag on Monday. New children to the school will be given their bag on Monday before we go to the library

Tuesday – PE – Please wear sports clothes on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend.
