Hello RTH & RLY Families,
We are now at the end of our third week of school! We’ve really started to get to know each other now and have developed lots of meaningful connections with one another. Alongside this we have also started diving deeper into the curriculum whilst maintaining our playful pedagogy.
Literacy:
This week we have focused on the graphemes and phonemes of Tt and Pp. We have now covered Ss, Aa, Tt and Pp. This means we can now start blending and sounding out some CVC words such as ‘tap’, ‘sat’, ‘pat’ and so on. This week we kept a strong focus on our bookmaking, introducing the children to books and building their knowledge on what is involved in a book. We continued with our playful literacy where we continued to read together, work on writing our names and engage in social play to continuously build skills.
Numeracy:
We continued with our 0-10 counting and subitising this week and worked towards the recognition of numerals also. We also compared collections of objects and introduced and discussed the meaning of the following words: equal/not equal, same/not the same and collections. The children also engaged in their numeracy play where they worked with mathematical tools to engage in play with others.
Play Inquiry:
Students continued with their play inquiry each morning, supporting the engagement in classroom resources and new relationships being built with all students. This week we have embedded a focus on the letters we are learning about through our morning play to make sure it is present and visible in our environments all day.
Technologies/Science:
Continuing with our focus on living and non-living beings we took part in an activity identifying living and non living beings and then looked at what plants need to survive (and hence what makes them living beings). We used this inquiry approach to create our own grass heads that we will observe and document as they grow!
Health:
This week we made cards for people we love and discussed the meaning of Valentines Day!
HaSS:
The focus this week was on likes and dislikes. We discussed how we can like and dislike different things to each other and that’s ok! We’re all different and unique in our own ways!
Religion:
With the beginning of Lent this week we focused on the meaning behind Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday where the whole school gathered for mass in the hall.
Important Information:
Assembly
RTH & RLY has an assembly in week 7. We are focusing on the diversity that Holy Family encompasses. For our assembly, we were hoping that either RTH & RLY teachers could record the students discussing their culture if permitted or if families could send in a video of their child discussing their culture and one of their favourite things about their culture as the compilation of videos will be shared within our assembly.
Photos
We have a belonging photo wall of students with their families where we are slowly growing our photos of children with their families. We ask that you bring in a photo or email a photo of your child and their family for our belonging wall with some information about you all.
We can’t wait to welcome everyone back for week 4!
