Learning Update – Week 3

Hello RTH & RLY families,

We had such as busy week this week, we focused on..

Literacy:

This week we looked at the new graphemes and phonemes of ‘Jj’ & ‘Vv’. We practiced these letters and used them in CVC words to deepen our understandings. The new word of ‘it’ was introduced this week and was added to our heart word list.

We also continued with our author focus of Mo Williems, we have now looked at all his major stories and are able to break down different ideas as a class to put into our own books. This looks like: extended speech bubbles, extra movement lines and much more.

Mathematics:

This week we moved on to part-whole operations, with the focus on addition and subtraction. We did this by focusing on sums up to five to help solidify understandings. As a class we did various addition and subtraction sums both written and through play.

Health:

We looked at relationships and looked at different types of relationships in people’s lives such as family, friends and so on. We then spoke about different relationships and students then drew their family in their books.

HaSS:

Continuing on from health, this week’s HaSS focus was on family also. We drew our family tree of our immediate family. We first did an exemplar on the board, and then took to attempting our own!

Science:

We reflected on movements from last week and discussed different types of movements in different sports. Students then drew what movements they do at recess and lunch in their books.

Religion:

This week we looked at Catholic symbols and discussed the importance of individual symbols and why we should know about the symbols within the Catholic religion. We then moved on to crafting our own Catholic symbol out of various crafting materials.

Technologies/Arts:

This week we continued our learning about drawing on the iPads with a focus on ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, focusing on a specific page that we had to recreate.

REMINDER:

Try At Home Books

This week we have attached a new focus on our ‘try at home books’, with new letters and words to focus on through the next few weeks.
