Learning Reflection – RLY & RTH – Week 8, Term 2, 2024.

Hello RTH and RLY families,

Welcome to the end of week 8! Only two more weeks until the school holidays and we have officially finished half a year of Reception! Here’s a quick recap of our week:

Literacy:

We have continued to reflect on our learnings over the term, this included our letters, our sounds, sentence structures, heart words and ability to blend our words. We also added some new heart words: ‘my’ and ‘they’.We worked together on reflecting, writing and spelling different sounds and letters to bring all of our learning together.

We also continued with our book making with a focus on ‘Ways to Add Words to out Books’. As a class we reflected on all the ways we can add words into our books from last week and added other ideas such as onomatopoeia, being brave spellers and so forth.

Mathematics:

This week we started our new unit of learning in Mathematics which is on ‘measurement’. We began by looking at different ways to measure things – formal and informal, length vs height, and explored sequencing events as a way of measuring our days.

Health:

This week we discussed what the words fair and unfair mean and how we can talk about these things with the people around us.

HaSS:

This week we have looked at family and memorable moments with them.

Science:

This week in science we moved on to the movement of bouncing and investigated different things that bounce and how different materials may have an impact.

Religion:

This week we discussed what religion is and discovered different ways in which different denominations practice their religion.

REMINDER:

Try At Home Books

We have our ‘try at home books’, with last week’s letters and words to focus on through the next week. These books are just for casual reading with your children if you have the time and they want to, however don’t feel like you need to, we do so much in class! It’s just an opportunity for your children to share their learning with you. You don’t need to add anything to/write in these books!

RLY:

We are fortunate to be welcoming a pre service teacher to our classroom soon! I will wait for her to introduce herself however a brief explanation:

  • She will be completing her final placement of her teaching degree with us – four years of hard work have led up to this point!
  • She will be completing a day with us on Tuesday of Week 9 to meet everyone.
  • She will be in class on Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 10.
  • She will commence teaching in the classroom from Week 3 in Term 3 until the end of Week 9 in Term 3.
  • We are very excited to welcome her!
