RLY & RTH – Learning Reflection – Week 4, Term 4, 2024.

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

Welcome to the end of Week 4! Here’s a quick recap of what we got up to…

Literacy:

This week in word study we have started to review and consolidate our learning from the year so far. We reviewed digraphs, high frequency words, bases and suffixes and focused on independent writing and pushing our reading a little bit further. In bookmaking we have started a new spotlight study: ‘Writing to others’. In this study we will look at writing letters and cards to other people – this will be so much fun as we get closer to Christmas!!

Mathematics:

In mathematics, we looked at capacity. We did some hands on investigations using sand and water to explore and play with different containers and predicted how much they would hold.

Technology:

This week in technology we conducted a STEAM challenge where we had to create a freestanding bridge that could hold the weight of Lego using only paper.

Arts:

In arts we learnt some new dances to work on our co-ordination and explore the different ways our bodies can move.

Health:

This week in health we reflected on how to use assertive communication to keep ourselves safe.

Religion:

In religion this week, we started a new unit of work on ‘Many people try to be like Jesus’. We explored this through stories of Jesus and his disciples and connected this to how we try to be like Jesus in our everyday lives.

HaSS:

In HaSS we worked towards understanding the cultural significance of different places and how these places hold special understandings and provide us with the things we need to survive and thrive in a community.

Science:

This week we continued with our weather journals and reflected on our previous observations and discussed different types of weather.

REMINDERS:

Reading at home:

Please don’t feel pressured to read with your children at home as we would like this to be a fun experience for you both however, if you are able to, it would support your children’s learning greatly if you could find some time to enjoy a picture book together or work on their readers.

Nuts:

We have children with anaphylaxis in our classrooms and Nutella poses a danger to their health. We are strictly a nut free environment so please be mindful of this when packing lunch boxes.

See you in week 5,

Ms. Yeend & Ms. Tiana
