Week 9 – Learning Update

Welcome back RTH and RLY families,

We have reached the end of week 9 and have one more week until we reach half a year of reception (and for some of the mid-years some last year, a whole year!)

Literacy:

We continued with reflecting on our learning of graphemes, phonemes, heart words, sentence structures, rhyming, blending and reading. We introduced a new heart word: ‘by’. We placed ‘by’ and an additional heart word into one sentence together, making sure our sentences make sense, sound right and follow typical conventions.

Within book making we have continued with our focus on ‘Ways to Add Words to our Books’. We spoke about ‘fancy’ ways we can write our words, onomatopoeia, using big and bold words and so forth.

Mathematics:

This week we continued with measurement, we were able to apply this to everyday life through sequencing our days of the week, sequencing stories and sequencing everyday tasks we complete.

Health:

In health, we looked at ways people use their power in fair and unfair ways, having discussions on ensuring we remain fair and use our power in positive ways.

HaSS:

This week we looked at Aboriginal celebrations and looked at dreamtime stories. We had a focus on ‘The Rainbow Serpent’ and drew our own rainbow serpent in our books.

Science:

In science, we continued with movement with a focus on sliding, we used our prediction skills before experimenting things that slide.

Religion:

This week we discussed what prayer is and why prayer is important, we wrapped this up by writing out a prayer card.

REMINDER:

Try At Home Books

We have our ‘try at home books’, with last week’s letters and words to focus on through the next week. These books are just for casual reading with your children if you have the time and they want to, however don’t feel like you need to, we do so much in class! It’s just an opportunity for your children to share their learning with you. You don’t need to add anything to/write in these books!

RLY:

We are fortunate to be welcoming a preservice teacher to our classroom soon! I will wait for her to introduce herself however a brief explanation:

  • She will be completing her final placement of her teaching degree with us – four years of hard work have led up to this point!
  • She will be in class on Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 10.
  • She will commence teaching in the classroom from Week 3 in Term 3 until the end of Week 9 in Term 3.
  • We are very excited to welcome her!
