Learning Reflection – RLY & RTH – Week 6, Term 4, 2024.

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

Welcome to the end of another awesome week together, here is what we got up to…

Literacy:

In word study this week we reviewed our digraphs, high frequency words, bases/suffixes, and sentence writing. We then started to explore plurals and how/when to use the ‘s’ or ‘es’ plural with words. We then began our word study assessment (the last one for the year!). In book making we continued with learning how to write to others, we look at cards and letters once again to do this. We worked on decorating the front of cards and then focused on thankyou cards, writing a thankyou card to another person in the class.

Mathematics:

In mathematics this week, we focused on position and location and which language to use when describing where something is.

Technology:

In technology we used our designs of the playground from last week and turned them into 3D models!

Arts:

In arts this week, we continued to connect body movements to beats and created our own short motif; a few movements joined together. We made various different motifs and performed our understandings.

Health:

This week in health we looked at different strategies that help keep us safe, including saying no, remembering important details, going to safe places and so forth. We also looked at different ways to be resilient.

Religion:

In religion, we learnt about the different seasons and colours of the Catholic Church as we approach the season of Advent. We learnt that this colour is Purple and signifies new beginnings.

HaSS:

This week in HaSS we had an incursion from Trent Hill which linked with our HaSS unit of learning on traditional places and how important they are.

Science:

In science this week, we concluded our unit of work on identifying and describing patterns in nature. We focused on weather, the patterns we have noticed in our weather journals and communicated our findings with others.

REMINDERS:

Reading at home:

Please don’t feel pressured to read with your children at home as we would like this to be a fun experience for you both however, if you are able to, it would support your children’s learning greatly if you could find some time to enjoy a picture book together or work on their readers.

Nuts:

We have children with anaphylaxis in our classrooms and Nutella poses a danger to their health. We are strictly a nut free environment so please be mindful of this when packing lunch boxes.

Pizza Party

We have been recycling our bottles and boxes this semester and are hoping to have a class pizza party at the end of the term with the money we raise from recycling. We are aware of student’s allergies in regards to food, but if there are any other food preferences within your family, please let us know.

Christmas Carols:

Christmas Carols will be held on Thursday 5th December 2024 from 6:30-8:00pm on the school oval. All children must be supervised by their families before and after their performance. Please bring a picnic rug and get ready to be festive with us! We’ve been practising really hard and are really in the Christmas spirit! Students are highly encouraged to wear Christmas clothes/colours for the event.

IS THIS YOUR FAMILY?

Your child (aged 6 to 14 years) has anxiety that is affecting their everyday life. It may stop them, or your whole family, from doing certain activities. Your child may be worried a lot of the time. You may swing between reassuring them and telling them to face their fears. Neither of these seems to work, and their anxiety seems to increase. You may feel like you’ve tried everything, and possibly may be anxious yourself. If parenting a child with anxiety is affecting your life and you’d like to help your child worry less and be more confident, this free seminar may help. Triple P encourages you to use practical strategies with all family members, not just the child who seems especially anxious. In this way, the Triple P program helps the whole family. The program is based on research and experiences working with the families of children with anxiety for more than 30 years. We look forward to seeing you there!

Any questions about the seminar please contact: emma.finos@holyfamily.catholic.edu.au or 8250 6616

This week we continued with digraphs, focusing on ‘sh’, ‘ee’ and ‘th’. We discussed different words that have the chosen digraphs in them, creating make believe words with these sounds, finding words that rhyme with the digraphs and creating sentences with the digraphs. We looked at books with our digraphs in them and then investigated books further, with a focus on titles, characters, techniques, and our thoughts on stories.

We started a new spotlight in bookmaking – ‘Information books: Write to teach your reader’. We delved deeper into headings, titles and diagrams.

Learning Reflection – Week 4, Term 3, 2024.

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

Welcome to the end of week 4!

We had a much better week with people feeling better. Please ensure if your child is feeling unwell to keep them home as Influenza is still going around.

Literacy:

This week we looked at the diagraphs of ‘ll’ and ‘ss’, looking at how these sounds are used in words, creating words with these sounds, rhyming words with these sounds and creating sentences incorporating these sounds. We also had an intentional focus on shared reading, focusing on titles, characters, techniques used and much more. In bookmaking, we looked at different information books and the features to include in our own books.

Mathematics:

In maths, we continued our numbers to 20, looking at number lines, identifying more or less in a group, comparing and ordering numbers. This helped to support us to continue to count past twenty, moving up to 120! This week we explored counting forwards and backwards to 120 and different ways to represent numbers. The students enjoyed learning about base 10 (MAB) blocks and showing numbers through manipulative.

Health:

In health, we learnt how our bodies are private and that each person needs personal space. We explored how it feels and what to do when you feel unsafe.

Religion:

This week in religion we looked at how God shows love through Bible stories. After reading the Jesus feeds the 5000 story students drew a picture of a part of the story and explained how Jesus showed and shared love.

HaSS:

In HaSS, we are exploring features of places through birds eye view. the students looking at features of place through colour, shapes and boundaries. We are looking at areas of our school and what it looks like from a birds eyes view.

Art/Design:

This week we have shifted our focus from the Olympics to exploring different nature plays and what they consist of.  We then analysed log park and had a meeting about what we could change, add and adjust to make it better. Students collected natural materials and created a self portrait using the natural materials highlighting the feature of the face.

Science:

In science, we continued to look at different materials and how different objects are made from different materials. We used our five senses to describe an object. Outside we did some predicting about items that would sink and float and explore what makes this happen.  The students were engaged and enjoyed exploring different materials that would sink and float.

We’re exploring the different literary conventions of a narrative versus an information text.

Mathematics:

This week we began our focus on numbers to 100, with reflection on numbers to 20. This allowed us to represent numbers, write numerals, use number lines, use ten frames, compare numbers, create art based around numbers and apply them in everyday use throughout the school.

Health:

In health, we focused on hygiene and self-care.

Religion:

In religion this week, we explored the Bible as a sacred text.

HASS:

This week, we looked at recognising and recording features of familiar places. Focusing on what we see, touch and hear; helping us connect with our senses.

Art/Design:

In Design we explored how brands use eye catching logos to sell their products, we then moved on to Arts where we used the flags of the countries in the Olympic Games and brainstormed how we could design our own flag that would be eye catching. With our theme being the Olympic Games for this integrated unit for the term across the two learning areas, we started watching races and events which was very fun and engaging!

Science:

This week in science, we tied HASS to science and focused on using our senses to look, feel and behave. We looked at things such as liquids, fabrics, elastics and soft/hard items.

We have had such a great start to this term and look forward to what awaits!
