Health:

This week we reflected on people who are safe to us and worked on understanding the meaning of trust. To do this we created a trust network with our most trusted people involved.

HaSS:

This week we continued with celebrations but had a focus on things we celebrate and reflected on what we do, why it is important and why we celebrate specific celebrations.

Science:

This week in science we moved on to the movement of bouncing and investigated different things that bounce.

It’s just an opportunity for your children to share their learning with you. You don’t need to add anything to/write in these books!

Shorter Week:

Unfortunately, due to the public holiday, pupil free day and Ms. Tiana having a day off, there are not as many photos this week! This will not be the case going forwards but is due to this week’s circumstances.

We look forward to week 8!

Learning Update – Week 1, Term 2

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

Welcome back to a new term of reception! We hope you all had a lovely break!

Literacy:

This week we reviewed some of our graphemes and phonemes from last term. These were ‘Ss’, ‘Aa’, ‘Tt’, ‘Pp’, ‘Ii’, ‘Nn’, ‘Mm’, ‘Oo’, ‘Pp’, ‘Cc’, ‘Bb’ & ‘Uu’. We used these letters to make CVC words and have been using them in the construction of sentences. We introduced a new high frequency word: ‘he’ and have been reviewing last terms words of: ‘and’, ‘I’, ‘the’, ‘in’, ‘on’, ‘that’, ‘this’, ‘and’ & ‘to’. We also introduced the author Mo Willems to both of the classes and looked at some of the books he has written/illustrated and have been implementing some ideas into our own books.

Numeracy/Art:

We began the week with a quick reflection on numbers and shapes from last term. We then moved on to our new focus of patterns. Students were taught what ‘AB’ and ‘ABC patterns are and have had time to make patterns both inside and outside of the classroom. We used our ideas of ABC patterns to relate to one of our texts, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and then created our own caterpillar with an ‘ABC’ pattern.

Play Inquiry:

Students engaged in play inquiry each morning, with a strong focus on our literacy work. This supported students’ relationships in the classroom and connected with the focus on CVC words, our graphemes and phonemes of the week and building a love of reading through the use of books.

Technologies:

We continued our work with iPads in technologies this term but have begun to focus on specific apps. This week we used ‘sketchesschool’ and created drawings with different tools to draw, erase, save and write on this new app.

HaSS:

This week we looked at who is important to individual students. We discussed different relationships such as family, friends, and acquaintances, focusing on why some people are important to someone. We then communicated why specific individuals are important to us.

Science:

This week in science we looked at movement and compared how different objects move, such as: balls, blocks, toys, and craft objects. This allowed for students to see different ways objects move and compare why and how certain objects move the way they do.

Health:

We looked at the differences in needs and wants. As a class we were able to discuss the difference between needs and wants, then creating a checklist of things an animal would need, rather than want. Students were then able to draw their ideas down.

Religion:

This week we focused on why church is important and what the details they can remember about church. We were able to relate love, relationships, the Bible, and various other things with church. Once this was established students drew a church and then what church consists of next to the church.

We had a great first week back and can’t wait for another week of fun filled learning!

Next week we will be sending home an ‘at home’ learning package, this will be completely optional and provides opportunities for further learning if your child would like to do so.

RLY & RTH – Weekly Blog – Week 11, Term 1, 2024.

Hello RLY and RTH children and families and welcome to the END OF TERM 1!!!!

We can’t quite believe that we are already about to celebrate the end of our first term of school! Ms Yeend and Ms Tiana are both extremely proud of how well the children have all settled in to school and can’t wait to see what Term 2 will bring!

This week we focused on integrating all of our learning in each subject area over the term to solidify and re-visit our new knowledge before the break.

We also had our very first sports day that saw the Cream team as the victors! What a special and fun day!

Thank you to all of the children and families for a very successful and fun first term. We hope you have a great two weeks together and will be ready to welcome you back on Monday 29th April.

Ms Yeend and Ms Tiana.

Week 10 – Learning Update

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

We are almost at the end of our first term, and we are so proud of how everyone has learn’t new things, grown, and developed within the first term!

Literacy:

This week we learnt the graphemes and phonemes of ‘Ll’ and ‘Uu’.  We looked back at last week’s graphemes and phonemes also as both this week and last were short. We continued with our book making each week and reached the end of our craft study focus, working towards using speech bubbles, giving characters emotions and so on. We continued with our focus on CVC and high frequency words; along with working on rhyme, syllables and blending of words.

Numeracy:

We continued position and location through applying ourselves throughout the school yard. This allowed for students to place themselves ‘next to’ objects, ‘under’ objects, ‘in between’ objects and so on. This allowed us to work on a position and location book where we were able to draw objects based on a verbal positional location.

Play Inquiry:

Students engaged in play inquiry each morning, with a strong focus on our literacy work. This supported students’ relationships in the classroom and connected with the focus on CVC words, our graphemes and phonemes of the week and building a love of reading through the use of books.

Technologies/HaSS:

We continued our work with iPads in technologies and began to make social stories through our ability to understand a text and take a relational photo. We used Holy Family’s behavioural plan and have begun to turn it into a social story as a reception cohort to add more meaning for all the students.

Science:

This week in science we applied our comprehension knowledge in our books. To do this we listened to a text about habitats, as this has been a large focus the past few weeks and then drew something we remembered from the story in our books. This helped reinforce our knowledge of habitats.

Health:

We continued with emergencies this week but had a focus on what an emergency may look like in school. We brainstormed different possible emergencies (a friend is hurt, a lockdown etc.) and once again drew a possible emergency and the resolution in our books (get a teacher, follow instructions etc.).

Religion:

This week we focused on celebrating Jesus’ resurrection through reflecting on Easter and reminding ourselves it’s the season where Jesus rose from the dead. We reflected on the story as a class and read a scripture to better understand Jesus’ resurrection and then drew a picture of Jesus resurrected in their books.

We look forward to a fun filled last week of term one together next week!

Ms. Tiana & Ms. Yeend

Rly & RTH – Weekly Blog – Week 9, Term 1, 2024

Hello RTH & RLY Families,

We have reached the end of week 9 and have had a learning filled week where we have strengthened our knowledge and learnt new things!

Literacy:

Throughout week 9 RTH and RLY have learnt the graphemes and phonemes of ‘Hh’ and ‘Bb’. We continuously reflect on our previous phonemes and graphemes from previous weeks to strengthen our understandings to continue to make CVC words. We have focused on the use of vowels in CVC words also. We have continued to rhyme, clap syllables and blend words to build our literary knowledge. Lastly, we have been focusing on our high frequency words once again with a focus on last week’s word of ‘to’ and this week’s word: ‘on’.

Numeracy:

This week we focused on position and location and used our classroom to hide in areas and then describe the position (on top of, under, between etc) and location (table, chairs, books etc). We have been using the book Rosie’s Walk to explore these positional and locational words and practiced using a map representing the narrative of the book.

Play Inquiry:

Students engaged in play inquiry each morning, with a strong focus on our literacy work. This supported students’ relationships in the classroom and connected with the focus on CVC words, our graphemes and phonemes of the week and building a love of reading through the use of books.

Technologies/Science:

This week we continued our living things focus through looking further into the habitats of their chosen animal from the previous week. We were able to individually take photos of the animals chosen in their habitat, where we were able to reflect on our ability to understand habitats and the technological ability of taking clear and precise photos through placing the photos taken on a slideshow. We then reflected on each photo as a class.

We also did an activity where children were asked to cut and glue a bunny on to a plate as an Easter activity that also linked to the technology curriculum where children extend their cutting and gluing skills.

HaSS:

This week for HaSS we explored our identities through creating an identity collage where we drew images of the things we liked and cut out pictures from magazines.

Health:

This week we explored what an emergency is. We discussed the phone number to call and the different types of emergency services we have to help us. We also drew a picture of an emergency and the resolution (fire, ambulance, police).

Religion:

For Holy Week we discussed the importance of each day and did a stations of the cross activity where we walked around the school and re-told the story of Jesus’ crucifixion. We also had a JP liturgy in the hall on Thursday where children took part in remembering Jesus’ story.

Quick Reminder:

If you are running late to pick your child up, we please ask you ring the front office so they can contact us to let us know. That way we can take the student to the office as class ends at 3pm each day.

Thankyou for your continuing support and we hope you all have a happy and safe Easter!

Ms. Tiana & Ms. Yeend
