Useful Classroom Phrases
The Year 5, 6, and 7’s have been focusing on oral language with an emphasis on implementing as many useful Spanish phrases into the classroom as possible. I began by introducing classroom phrases and requests into our Spanish classes and encouraged other teachers to incorporate them across the school.
I immersed my students in an environment where classroom directions were given in Spanish. Students were required to respond to directions or express themselves in Spanish. As time has progressed students co-created many new requests that they wanted to incorporate into the classroom phrases. Here are some examples of their presentations.
Reception Year 1 – Los Colores
The Receptions and Year 1’s have been learning the “Colores” in Spanish. Señora Opazo has been teaching them a song about “Los Colores”. The students were “fantastico”. Por favor enjoy watching them singing en Español!

Year 2 – Los Colores
Churros y Chocolate
For Nourish and Flourish Day Señora Opazo and Mr Bartold with the students made “Churros y Chocolate.” Churros are a golden fritter of pastry that’s deep fried and eaten warm. A Spanish favourite, churros make a delcious dessert but are eaten traditionally in Spain for breakfast. Churros are the ultimate treat to have with a mug of hot chocolate or dipped in a little melted chocolate. Señora Opazo and Mr Bartold with the help of Señora Opazo’s daughter Viviana made over 150 churros to share with students and staff. It was an “Fantastico” effort. Well done! The students and staff enjoyed the Spanish taste experience.
Jordan (6/7RV) – It was a good experience. They tasted delicious!
Sweata (6/7RV) – It was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I would definitely eat them again.
Hayley (6/7IB) – It was a fantastic time and I really enjoyed it.
Amity (6/7IB) – It was a good learning experience.
Please enjoy this You tube site on how to make Churros.
Oral Language Games
Los Colores
During Week 2 the Receptions, Year 1’s and Year 2’s have been learning the colours in Spanish. The students have been playing games, dancing and singing songs. We have had lots of fun learning the colours! Please enjoy the photos and video of the children participating in the class activities.
This is the song that the children have been singing in Spanish. Please enjoy listening to it with you child. You can learn the colours together!
España Spain
In Spanish, students have been looking at Spain’s geography and culture. We discussed the most famous cities in Spain. Learning about other countries and cultures can be exciting! Students contributed lots of prior information to the discussion. This inquiry allowed for students to have a cultural awareness and appreciation of Spain.
