Do You Want To Learn an Instrument Next Year?

sheetmusicIf your child is in year 1 or above next year, then they are able to learn an instrument at school.  Information and enrolment booklets are available now; you can pick up a copy from the school office or music teacher. Please try to send the enrolment form back before the end of this year so that teachers can be organised for next year.  Please note that if your child is already learning an instrument at school and wishes to continue in 2017, an enrolment form still needs to be completed for the new year.

You may like to choose one of the following  – violin, recorder, drums, singing, flute (subject to enrolment numbers), saxophone, classical guitar, piano or keyboard.  (Year ones may only choose from the instruments in bold.)

This is the main intake for the new year and waiting lists may apply if you delay.  Don’t miss out on giving your child the gift of music. Enrol now!

Welcome to Term 4 Music!

This term, all students will be learning about Boomwhackers! Each coloured Boomwhacker represents a note in the musical scale and when played together or struck on the floor, they produce musical tones. Students will explore how to create different sounds, harmony and rhythms using Boomwhackers (as pictured).

Each class has had a go at playing the Boomwhackers and have each been impressed by these tuned percussion tubes! The students are excited to learn more as the term progresses.

Congratulations to our Festival Choir who performed at the Festival Theatre on Tuesday the 27th September!

What a fabulous way to finish off term 3! The show was a spectacular showcase of talent in Catholic schools and our students were wonderful representatives of Holy Family! I was beaming with pride throughout the entire show – what a fantastic celebration of all the hard work and dedication each student has put in over the year.  It was great to see the level of commitment and enthusiasm shine through on the night.

Catholic Schools Music Festival 2016!

CSMF poster

2016 will mark the 28th Annual Catholic Schools Music Festival, with over 2000 students representing approximately 80 Catholic Schools who perform throughout the four evenings of the festival.

The music focus this year is both joyful and fun; creating a vibrant atmosphere with songs mainly selected from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s.

Each evening of the Music Festival comprises a carefully crafted medley of our talented youth; encompassing a 400-voice Combined Schools Upper Primary Choir accompanied by a Secondary Girls Vocal Ensemble and a Secondary Boys Vocal Ensemble providing a rich baritone element. The arrangements of the choral songs involve soloists chosen by audition, and are complemented by selected secondary students in both the Festival String Ensemble and Festival Rhythm Section.

A variety of Support Acts selected by audition comprising solo, duet and ensemble items provide entertainment throughout the evening both on stage interspersed throughout the choral program and as foyer entertainment prior to the concert.

The 2016 Music Festival dates are 26, 27, 28, 29 September, 7.30pm in the Festival Theatre at the Adelaide Festival Centre.

Week 7 Music with Mrs Rebeiro! R/1EC and R/1DT

This week in music, the R/1 classes have been focusing on pitch. The students sang the song “The Wheels on the Bus” and learnt all of the actions ready to put it together with the song.

As you can see, R/1EC and R/1DT had lots of fun singing and doing all of the actions in time with the music. The challenge was to put all of the lyrics together with the correct action at the end of the song!

The wheels on the bus go round and round…
