This week in Music, all classes from R-4 practiced Mass songs in preparation for our Mission Day Mass next Friday.
As you can see below, one of the favourites for R/1MR and R/1JM was “These Hands”…
‘These Hands’
‘This Heart’
‘This Voice’
‘My God’
Mime to Music…
Music often makes us think and feel different things, so the year 2’s began thinking about what animals they could mime to different piano music. Students thought about musical elements such as high, low, fast, slow, loud and soft and how these could relate to different animals. Below are some photos of the students miming to the music… How many different animals can you see?
The students also used Chime Bars and Glockenspiels to continue their learning about pitch. Students learnt all the verses to ‘A Sailor went to Sea Sea Sea’ and played the song on the instruments. Students rotated and shared the instruments so that everyone could have a go!
This week, the year 3/4 classes continued practicing a simple melody and a bass line using Glockenspiels and Xylophones. Students were able to vary the tempo of their music and with more practice, they became more confident. Here are some photos of 3/4ZS and 3/4CP as they worked together to play a bass line and a melody…
This week in Music, 3/4EH and 3/4CM began learning the difference between a melody and a bass line. The students used Glockenspiels and Xylophones to explore both of these concepts and were able to share their learning with the class. Students had a go at playing a simple melody using the notes C,E,G over a bass line. Here are some of the students from 3/4EH and 3/4CM taking it in turns to give it a go!
This week in Music, R/1 students continued learning about pitch. Students worked on their aural listening skills as they played the game ‘Giraffes and Ants’ and were able to recognise high, low, fast and slow! Students practiced high and low pitch on the Chime Bars and were able to tap the beat in time while they waited for their turn.
Students from R/1ET and R/1R also spent some time learning the four verses to ‘A Sailor went to Sea, Sea, Sea’. Students practiced the song in different ways using body percussion, actions and rests. Here are some photos below of the students as they sing different parts of the song!
A sailor went to Sea Sea Sea…
A sailor went to Chop Chop Chop…
Sailor went to Knee Knee Knee…
A Sailor went to Foot Foot Foot…
A sailor went to Tim Buck Too!
This week in Music, the R/1 students began learning about high and low pitch. Students played the game ‘Giraffes and Ants’ to help them visualise the difference between high and low. When the music sounded high, students reached to the sky like a tall giraffe and when the music sounded low, they would get down low to the ground like a tiny ant! As you can see, R/1MC and R/1GC had lots of fun learning about pitch!
Students also started learning how to play the Chime Bars as they sang the song “A Sailor went to Sea Sea Sea”. Whenever they sang the word “Sea” they had to find and play the highest and lowest ‘C’ on their Chime Bar…
A sailor went to sea sea sea,
To see what he could sea sea sea,
But all that he could sea sea sea,
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea sea sea!
This week, the year 3/4 students learnt the difference between percussion and tuned percussion instruments. Students used Glockenspiels and Xylophones to explore high and low pitch and used the notes within a C chord (C E and G) to create a tune to perform to the class! Here are some pictures of 3/4DP busily creating their tune!
