Welcome to Wednesday!

Today is a special day for Lowell … his 7th birthday! We sang to him and wished him an awesome day!

Here’s our learning line up:

Today’s text was ….

SHORTLISTED FOR THE CBCA BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD: EARLY CHILDHOOD 2020

Meek the possum and her sisters three are happy living in the sprawling paperbark tree – until the day Squabbles the bat moves in. A story about sharing and making friends.

Meek lives with her three sisters, a gaggle of birds, lizards and other creatures next to a tumbledown terrace house. Everyone shares the space, and life is pretty sweet until the day a rude and messy fruit bat named Squabbles moves in – and demands everyone else move OUT. Will Meek be able to get rid of Squabbles, or is there a way for everyone to get along?

Congratulations to Abel , who predicted the bat would end up in the trash bin, and to Aisha, who said that the theme of the story was ‘Sharing is caring!’

Letters and Sounds

Mrs Papillo’s group were learning about the digraph qu today.

Mrs Handforth’s group were learning about the long vowel sound /oo/ as in moon. Congratulations to Bella and Abel who won the ‘oo’ word challenge – they were the pair that found and recorded the most words with the long vowel sound. They achieved a grand total of 18. Well done, Bella and Abel.

Mr Woods’ group were learning to recognise and sort CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words according to the sound made by the medial vowel. This also helped these students to revise and consolidate the short sounds made by the five vowels in the English alphabet: a, e, i, o and u.

Play Investigations | Well-Being Survey

During play investigations today, the children sat with their teacher individually to respond to some simple questions about their sense of well being at school. This questionnaire has been designed and distributed by the Catholic Education Office, South Australia, to measure the well-being of students at Catholic schools.

We also had some fitness in the sun … what a beautiful day!

Buddies

In the afternoon both classes spent time with their respective buddy class to prepare and or practise for our forthcoming assemblies.

  • R1MP and 56NB – Friday 28th August 2020 (Week 6) at 9 a.m. in the school hall)
  • R1JH and 56ND – Friday 4th September 2020 (Week 7) at 9 a.m. in the school hall)

We hope you are able to attend and enjoy the performances. The assembly is a Part 1 and a part 2, so there is a common theme across both performances. We believe this is the first time Holy Family has hosted an assembly in this way – a first by our awesome students and their big buddies.

R1JH also had an opportunity to enjoys some time on the playground with their buddies too.
