We are so proud of the children and the progress they have made with their independent reading so far this year. Keep reading every night and you will flourish.

Word Study this week:
Handwriting – ‘ss’ and ‘zz’
ss – words – hiss, miss, Tess, pass
zz- words – buzz, Jazz, fizz
The children also copied short sentences to extend their learning about high frequency words and sentence structure. The children then drew pictures which demonstrated their comprehension of the text.

Book Making
Author study – Pamela Allen
This week we have been taking about characters in Pamela Allen books.
We made a long list of characters she uses, they include:
Dragon, boy, bear, king, queen, families, ducks, cow, monster, girl, baby, policeman, elephant, walrus, grandma
We also talked about how Pamela Allen draws her characters the same all the way through her books. – Like the little boy in the story – Is your grandmother a goanna? The boys has green shorts and a blue top, he has a back pack and a hat on throughout the book.
Technology
You have been invited to a costume birthday party – What costume are you going to wear?
Task – design and label your costume.
Numeracy
This week we played location and direction games on targeting math. We also drew a map of our bedrooms and of the zoo.
Rhyme Time
