This was our learning line up for the day…

During play investigations students were busy building, making and playing. With the Moon Lantern Festival approaching the students continued with making their mooncakes. Some students have also enjoyed creating mini books all about the letters we have learnt so far. After a play on the playground we came in to do a Maths Mini lesson all about SUBITISING
Subitising is the ability to instantly recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them. For example, when a student rolls a dice they can instantly recognise the number of dots on the face of the dice.

The students confidently recalled the number of dots shown. After viewing the arrangement below for two seconds some students could even say how many of each colour and the total amount of combined dots. Mupie explained there were 2 blue, 2 purple and 2 peach and there was 6 all together! A great example of informal addition! And some great brain training for all of us!

After recess we went over to the hall to practice our assembly. We learnt where we would sit, some of the actions we needed to do and some students even rehearsed their speaking parts. Mrs A will send home a copy of their speaking parts for the brave volunteers. Your assistance in practising their parts would be greatly appreciated!

We then had a dance break before moving on to Science where we discussed living and non-living things. Here is some of our amazing sorting.

We had a very interesting discussion about shells and snails. Everleigh had a shell but mentioned if there was a snail inside it would be living! But if there’s no snail and it’s just the shell it would be non-living. How interesting! We talked about what living things have in common and watched these short clips about the needs of living things.
