Welcome to Week 9. This morning Mr S, Mrs A and Mrs Sharman were in a special meeting where we shared some of the amazing books the students have made in Writer’s Workshop. The development of writing; beginning with mark making is a vital step in student’s literacy development! There are also varied stages of emergent writing with each student on their own unique journey.

As adults, we often compare emergent writing to what adult writing looks like but we should really be asking ‘What does 5 year old writing look like?’ Five year old writing is being brave about making marks on paper and the willingness to try (even if they don’t look like letters yet!) It is the understanding that writing carries a message. It is the attempt to experiment with letters they have seen before, or a letter newly learnt, or event the letters in their name and record them with intention.
After recess we recapped all the letters we have learnt so far and then it was time for Writer’s Workshop. Our brave sharers today were Mupi, Grace and Nhi. We practised the following statement before sharing our books “My Book is About…”.
After recess RKS went to library whilst RSA had mindfulness time. Then we got to choose between inside and outside play on this lovely sunny afternoon.
