Wednesday 30.11.22 (Week 7)

Good Afternoon everyone, hope you all had a lovely day enjoying the sunshine. The students noticed that our November calendar ends today and were excited to learn that tomorrow will begin a new month DECEMBER and a new season SUMMER! After completing organisation we began our literacy investigations with the following activities. Some safe and sensible collaborations for body letters too!

Then it was time for maths where we continued counting collections. Our job was to sort, name and count our collections. Well done team!

After recess Mr S took each class for carols rehearsal while Mrs Sharman took each class for our toy inquiry. Today we discussed different forces such as push, pull, spin and roll. We looked specifically at toys that roll and then had a go at making our very own toy… a marble track.

Some amazing design skills at play today and some students started to consider rules and a point system to go along with their marble track toy. Awesome creativity team!

The day ended with some much needed relaxation and indoor / outdoor play.

Keep up the creativity, team work and listening skills!

See you next week,

Mrs Sharman 🙂

*With just a couple of weeks left of school we will begin to send home some books. Today we sent home the students’ Art Journals. They’ll be able to use them at home for drawing (if there’s any room left).

Tuesday 29/11/22 week 7

Hello everyone and welcome to another interesting day in RSA and RKS. We started the day off with writer’s workshop where we have continued looking at adding numbers and dinosaurs into our bookmaking.

Then we looked at caring for God’s earth in the MUDLA.

After recess, we had numeracy rotations where the students continued investigating patterns with blocks and dominos.

After Lunch, the class had mindfulness where the students have developed their fine motor skills to create colourful pictures. Once we were all relaxed, we started our imaginative play where students have continued to explore representing different objects as items when they play.

Just a reminder that we have an incursion on Friday focusing on playing with nature. Could all the students please wear their sports uniform just in case they get a little grubby.

Monday 28.11.22 (Week 7)

Hello everyone and welcome to week 7! We hope you all enjoyed your weekend and played in the glorious sunshine! This was our learning line up for today…

After our morning organisation we began play based investigations. Laptops were a favourite today and lots of children explored the program ‘Targeting Maths’ practising their number skills. Following this we practised our oral language skills. Using photo prompts our brave speakers explained what activities they participated in during play… an oral recount. This practise enables students to become familiar with the structure of a recount and the language that accompanies them such as first, then, next, after that and finally.

Up next was letter and sound practise, today our letter was Qq. This tricky letter was tackled head on by our courageous writers, with so many great examples to be shared. Then we read our text for this week ‘Ten Little Dinosaurs’ by Mike Brownlow and Simon Rickerty. Here it is if you’d like to read along at home.

Number books are so fun to read, they are full of problem solving and the predictability of number sequencing. Mrs Sharman showed how we could write our very own number book inspired by the authors of ‘Ten Little Dinosaurs’. Some of us tried our own while others continued on with their lift the flap books from last week.

After lunch RKS marched off to the library whilst RSA quitened our bodies and minds with reading, drawing and relaxation. Finally, our day ended with an option of indoor and outdoor play. A busy day in RSA and RKS.

See you tomorrow,

Mrs Sharman

*Reminder: There have been some nasty coughs and colds going around the classroom. A gentle reminder if your child is unwell please keep them home. Thank you 🙂

Thursday week 6 24/11/22

Hello everyone and welcome to another day in RSA and RKS. We started the day with play-based investigations where students have been really creative in their construction work.

After we packed up the room, RSA went off to the library to borrow some books and RKS had circle time where the students explored each other’s favourite things.

Once we had recess, RSA got to investigate the letter ‘X’ and RKS had a special Mass in the centre with RMR and RPN.

After lunch, we had mindfulness then the students got to be imaginative in their play exploring cubby house making, puppets and house building with lego.

I hope everyone enjoys the sun this afternoon,

Mr S

Wednesday week 6 23/11/22

Hello everyone and welcome to another day in RSA and RKS. We started the day with play-based investigations where the students constructed amazing building displays.

Check out the video link of the dominos creation Dominos video

After Recess, students investigated letters with their bodies in literacy rotations and continue working on writing their name. Can you guess the letters they made?

After lunch, we had play-based investigations where students continued their awesome building designs and social skills.

Hope everyone enjoys their afternoon,

Mr S

Tuesday 22/11/22 (week 6)

Hello everyone and welcome to another day in RSA and RKS. We started the day with writer’s workshop where the students continued creating books based off the reading from yesterday. Students were brave spellers focusing on writing different colours and animals. They also designed their books with a flap that was hiding some of their animal and colour drawings.

Next, we investigated the MUDLA looking at the features of the animals. The students spotted one of the lizards shedding their skin in their enclosure.

After recess, we looked at creating AB, ABC and ABCD patterns with the colours before slowly being introduced to the idea that we can make a pattern with shapes.

After lunch, we had play-based investigations where students focused on designing and creating through imaginative play.

It was a busy day today and I hope everyone gets a good night’s rest,

Mr S

Monday 21.11.22 (Week 6)

Welcome to Week 6, only a month left of school before the Christmas holidays begin. Wow the term is flying by fast.

This morning we began the day with investigations. To highlight our shared reading text this week ‘Dear Zoo’ the students had the opportunity to create animal masks and were given zoo tickets to immerse themselves in imaginative play.

Our resident zoo keepers Miraaya and Beau made sure all the animals were well fed and all the visitors had their zoo tickets. It was wonderful to see the students taking on different roles in the zoo and interacting in new and exciting ways to promote positive relationships, creativity and oral language.

After recess we practised our next letter ‘Vv’ brought to you by Vicky Violet. Vicky Violet lives in a valley with her very big, very valuable vase full of violets. Alliteration is a helpful way for children to hear and notice the beginning sounds in words. Alliteration is the occurrence of the same letter sound at the beginning of closely connected words. Helping children notice when words sound the same at the beginning — i.e. man and moon — directs their attention to the distinct sounds our language makes. Playing with alliteration helps develop learners’ awareness of similar sounds, and begin to understand individual phonemes of the English language.

For Writer’s Workshop we took a closer look at our shared text ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell. We noticed a cool feature to the text were the liftable flaps that have the animal hidden underneath. We were eager to try this in our own books. Here is some of our lovely work.

In the afternoon we enjoyed some mindfulness time before continuing play based investigations. Many were eager to continue our imaginative zoo play.

A lovely start to the week. See you all tomorrow.

Mrs Sharman

Friday the 18th

We started our day by viewing an Assembly all about Christmas Elves visiting some classrooms.

During numeracy, we moved onto a new area of learning. We are looking at the concept of time. Our learning intention is: to sequence times of the day including morning, lunchtime, afternoon and night time, and connect them to familiar events and actions.

We were successful if we could:

  • sort some activities into if we do them in the day or at night
  • cut and glue the pictures independantly

.

Inquiry time provides opportunities to develop the children’s personal and social skills. They also need to be utilising their critical and creative capabilities.

Have a great weekend everyone despite this winter weather.

Term 4: week 5 17/11/22

Hi everyone and welcome to a fantastic sunny day in RKS and RSA. In the morning session students explored building cool structures through lego, magnetic squares and playdough. A few students even started creating cubby houses using the furniture and blankets from the puppet show.

After recess, the students investigated the letter ‘w’. Students looked at how to correctly write the letter ‘w’ and what are some of the words that begin with the letter ‘w’. Then in their books they tried to practice this letter and drawing things that start with ‘w’.

Students came back exhausted from lunch and needed a nice break in mindfulness. Once the students were rested, they had the opportunity to explore the laptops or play ball games outside.

Students had a wonderful day exploring new things and I hope to see everyone tomorrow,

Mr S
