Term 2: Week 8

Another busy week in 3HS and 3JH … despite being a 4 day week.

ENGLISH
We have been learning about past and present tense in Word Study. We’ve looked at how regular verbs change when they are in the past tense , noting the suffix -ed is added to the root. However, sometimes we noticed this rule didn’t apply because some verbs are irregular. These were trickier for us, but we got better at spotting them.

We read a funny story called Licked today by English-Australian author, Paul Jennings. Everyone liked it! Andrew, the narrator of the story, tried to make his dad crack … ask us how and we will reveal his ‘secret weapon’.

Of course, we’ve also continued with Writer’s Workshop, generating and using different words for went … and my did we generate a long list of words! Well done to Jasper and Logan for acting some of them out  so everyone could understand what they meant.

In Drama, we explored a world without words, using mime and gesture to communicate.

We also ventured into the new building, Curiosity, which houses the school library, for our first look at the completed setup …. a definite buzz!

MATHEMATICS

Mrs Stam introduced a new topic – measurement. We all got busy measuring ourselves and each other, as well as classroom objects, using standard and non-standard units of measurement.

3JH discovered that Anoop was the tallest student in the class, and in 3HS it was Kai. We’re going to remeasure ourselves towards the end of the year and see how much we’ve grown. The chart will remain in class till then.

SCIENCE

On Wednesday we had a visit from John, a South Australian bee keeper. He told us lots of fascinating facts about native bees and European honey bees, as well as bringing in a hive, a smoker, bee keeper protective clothing and some delicious honey!

Some of us got to show John our MUDLA and Fish Farm too, and that involved giving the big barramundi some food …
