Friday (Term 1 | Week 4)

Welcome to Friday in Rooms 7 & 8 at HCFS.

Today ‘s learning looked as follows:

ASSEMBLY

Today’s assembly was presented by 4GM and 3JW and it was themed on ‘The Lost Kingdom’. Our students enjoyed the genie and the acting.

MATHS MINI

Mrs Papillo sang the song ‘Five Little Speckled Frogs’ with the children and she then modelled the song using some plastic frogs to show the pattern as one by one the frogs jumped into the water: 5,4,3,2,1.

Some students recorded this pattern using drawings of frogs, whilst others worked on ten frogs and subtracting one frog. Others counted forwards, forming numerals and drawing smiley frog faces to show amounts.

SHARED READING

We shared the information book ‘In the Pond’ again, paying particular attention to the scientific names used for the development of the egg through to becoming a frog. We highlighted the following ‘scientific’ words (technical vocabulary): egg, frogspawn, tadpole, froglet, frog, life cycle and predator.

LETTERS AND SOUNDS

We revised all the letters and sounds we have learnt about this week using songs, rhymes and actions. Lots of students have remembered them all … well done!

COSMIC KIDS YOGA

Today’s mindfulness was a Cosmic Kids Yoga session themed on the children’s classic book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.

The children enjoyed performing all the actions in yoga poses.

ART

After yoga, the children used paper to investigate.

Some students chose to create pictures using different stencils:

Madeline made her mother and brother:

Mikalya led a workshop for her peers showing them how to make their own chatterboxes from paper. First she demonstrated how to make a square from a rectangular piece of paper. Next she demonstrated all the folds needed to create the chatterboxes. Fantastic teaching, Mikayla.

Some students wanted to make and decorate paper aeroplanes. They investigated which shapes were the most aerodynamic and then lined up outside to see whose plane could fly the furtherest.

And some of us were just enjoying books, which are of course made out of paper. Abel and Braiden were excited to see there was a new ‘Where’s Wally?’ book in class …

REMINDERS FOR WEEK 5
