Monday (Term 1 | Week 8)

A very warm welcome to Week 8

Here’s our learning line-up for today and our Week 8 (March) calendar:

NUMERACY

The children worked in two different groups today.

One group worked with Mrs Thu and Miss Jade. They took two handfuls of unifix cubes and used ten frames to record pictorally how many cubes in each handful. They then had to record the amount as a number, before comparing both numbers and circling the larger.

The second group were rolling dice, adding totals and comparing their total with a partner’s total. Some of these students were circling the larger total, whilst others were using mathematical notations to compare the totals generated.

PLAY INVESTIGATIONS

The children engaged in a range of activities including art, jigsaws, role play and dress ups, construction and small world. Mrs Handforth was busy hearing individual readers during

SHARED READING

Today we read  ‘Owl Babies’ written by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson.

“I want my mommy!” Three baby owls awake one night to find their mother gone, and they can’t help but wonder where she is. What is she doing?
When will she be back? What scary things move all around them? Stunning illustrations from striking perspectives capture the anxious little owls as they worry. Not surprisingly, joyous flapping and dancing and bouncing greet the mother’s return …  Never has the plight of young ones who miss their mother been so simply told or so beautifully rendered.

LITERACY/ART ACTIVITY

The children created their own piece of artwork featuring the three owlets from the story: Sarah, Percy and Bill.
