Wednesday (Term 1 | Week 8)

Another warm autumn Wednesday … welcome to our learning blog for today.

LETTERS AND SOUNDS

Today we focused on the letter g making the sound /g/ as in girl, glass and go. The children practised writing the letter, singing songs and blending sounds to read words.

LIBRARY

Today we shared the text, A Flair for Hair written by Bilyana Di Costanzo and illustrated by Mauro Di Costanzo.

What do you do to your hair when you are getting ready for the day?
A humorous look at modern hairstyles put on animals with caricature-style illustrations.

We then borrowed new readers and storybooks, and we read with our friends and/or teachers. Thanks to Micky for taking photographs today during R/1JH’s visit to the library.

NUMERACY

Today Mrs Papillo modelled how to write number sentences. She rolled two and three dice, recording in the number of dots. She then placed the information into a number sentence using the plus and equals signs, e.g. 4 + 6 = 10.

The children then worked at one of 5 activities, planned at an appropriate level of challenge for their current skill development.

PLAY INVESTIGATIONS

Isabella inspired lots of children to make counting books today after bringing in and sharing a number 1-20 book she made at home.

LITERACY

We embarked on the second page of our book making today. The children wrote and illustrated the first page of the story after working on the front cover yesterday.
