R1JH Come Write With Me and Laptop Learning

Today Lowell, Anthony, Vincent and Aleer completed some independent writing about the Australian marsupial, the koala. They used the diagram of a koala that they had drawn and labelled as a source of ideas, plus they were encouraged to add any further information they knew about these mammals. Before commencing their writing the boys were encouraged to:

  • use adjectives (describing words) to make their descriptions of koalas more interesting for their reader
  • use full stops and capital letters to demarcate sentence boundaries
  • say aloud any unfamiliar words they wanted to spell, segmenting the sounds they could hear in the word or within syllables.

Ebony read a book called ‘Frog’ to Mrs Handforth and then she drew a chalk pastel picture of the frog on a lily pad within a pond.

Shared Reading

I’m Australian Too provides a wonderful example of Australia’s richly diverse tapestry, captured through beautiful rhythm, rhyme and illustration for teachers and students alike to discover and explore Australia’s multiculturalism.

Our first peoples take pride of place and offer to “share the place with you”, while migrants from Ireland, Italy, Greece, England, Lebanon, Vietnam, China, Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria, are celebrated and valued too.

Play Investigations

Keeping Safe

Today the children shared their knowledge of the meaning of the word TRUST. Then the children began to create their personal safety networks of people they trust.  Parents, you may like to discuss this activity with your child tonight.
