HASS/ART

This term, we are visiting different countries around the world by sharing traditional tales from different cultures. The students are then invited to respond to the story by choosing at least two activities on offer. Across the term, the activities will cover curriculum areas such as: history, geography, science, the fine arts and design & technology.

Today we began at home in Australia with an indigenous dreaming story called The Echidna and the Shade Tree:

After sharing the story, the children busied themselves, engaging in a selection of the following activities:

  • Making an echidna using clay and matchsticks
  • Designing a boomerang
  • Creating the story setting using Lego (red/yellow desert and the huge shade tree)
  • Drawing/sketching Australian animals
  • Exploring maps of Australia
