Wednesday (Term 3 | Week 7)

A warm welcome to Wednesday …

Reading Award

Congratulations Ayan on your wonderful achievement of reading for 150 nights. Well done!

Library

Today we read another shortlisted book for the Picture Book of the Year (Early Readers).  The children loved this beautiful story about a little boy and his longing for a dog of his own.  A beautiful story written by Kirsty Murray and wonderfully illustrated by Karen Blair.

Letters and Sounds

Mrs Papillo’s ‘Letters and Sounds’ group were focusing on the digraph /sh/, which is  made by the letters s and h working together to make a single sound:

Why not try singing the sh song to the music?

Mrs Handforth’s ‘Letters and Sounds’ group were focusing on the letters ‘oo’ again … but unlike last week, this week the letters made a short vowel sound, as in book, cook, look and took.

Positive Education: Growth Mindset

This afternoon we embarked on the fourth in a series of lessons dedicated to exploring the concept of growth mindset.

We began by watching the final instalment of our Class Dojo learning about growth mindset: Mojo Puts It All Together. In this episode Mojo reflects on the meaning of ‘your brain is like a muscle’ after a setback.

We discussed the following questions in Talk Partner pairs with some students sharing their feedback with the wider class:

  • What feelings do you have when something is too hard? Is it okay to feel that way?
  • What kind of attitude should we have when facing a challenge, and why is that important?
  • When doin something challenging, t’s okay to ask for help or take a break to reflect, like Mojo did! Does this mean we aren’t growing our brain anymore?

Some things we can think and say if we foster a growth mindset are:

We also discussed what someone with a fixed mindset might say:

Here are some of our amazing brains!
