Numeracy

Today the children continued to investigate coins by identifying the different types or adding coins to find the total.

Liam and Armin worked with Mrs Handforth, investigating coins and taking a closer look with magnifying glasses. Both boys were great at spotting the different coins and using a colour code to identify them.

Positive Education: Empathy

The focus in this unit of learning is that anyone can develop their skills of empathy. We began by watching a Mojo video, where Mojo gets his debut role as director of a school play. Unfortunately, it is proves to be tricky and his friends, who are acting, keep forgetting their lines. When the school newspaper carries an article suggesting Mojo may be struggling, he gets annoyed and is mean to his friends. They leave the play. Mojo is left alone with three days to go until the opening night.

We discussed how Mojo was feeling: embarrassed because he can’t do it (Abel); upset because his friends don’t like him any more (Ebony); sad because he’s on his own now (Sam). We also discussed how Mojo’s friends might be feeling too: angry because Mojo was mean to them (Victoria); really sad because Mojo wasn’t a good friend and didn’t talk to them kind (Joshua); disappointed because they thought Mojo was their friend (Lowell).

The children then were invited to use words and/or pictures to show/tell what they thought Mojo should do next ….

Mindful Art

After lunch the students listened to the music of two classic composers, Vivaldi and Chopin.  Whilst listening to the music, the children were invited to draw images.  Then, the children shared their responses about their drawings with the class.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Monday.
