Term 1, Week 1 and 2

Hello and welcome to RPN and RMR’s Blog. We will be posting highlights of the week on a Friday.

We have had a busy two weeks exploring the school and becoming familiar with the classroom and our new routines. During the first few weeks our focus has been on building a community of learners and the classroom is a place where we learn and feel safe and happy.

Here are some of the highlights from the first two weeks of school:

We have been starting our days with literacy games and conversations-

Word Study– We started focusing on some letters and letter sounds this week. We did some learning around the letters Ss and Aa. We learnt about what sound these letters make, and discussed words  beginning with the sounds. The students practised writing the letters and some words beginning with the letters. They also made a snake and a tree with apples on it.

Bookmaking- During book making sessions the students have concentrated on finding a positive power spot for their learning. They also have started to become familiar with the materials needed during this time and how to use them. We read the students several published stories and we had discussions about different aspects present in books, such as the characters, words and pictures.

Rhyme Time- Humpty Dumpty rhyme.
After we shared the Humpty Dumpty rhyme, the children recalled the rhyme.
We talked about words that rhymed and tried to think of as many words that rhyme with ‘wall’. We talked about words that rhyme and words that don’t.
Does wall and ball rhyme?
Does ball and book rhyme?
The children then drew a picture of the rhyme, trying to remember all of the characters and parts of the story.

Play Investigations- As children play, they are leading their learning through exploring their ideas and interests. During play the children are using disposition for learning, such as creativity, leadership, communication, negotiation, problem solving and persistence, These disposition are important to have as life long learners.

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you on Monday.

Paul and Michelle 🙂
