Wednesday (Term 1 | Week 6)

A warm welcome to Wednesday!

Today we welcomed Mr Ben Lennon into class, whilst Mrs Stam recuperated at home.

LIBRARY
Today’s shared text was a beautifully illustrated book all about the seasonal changes we experience throughout the year. The book is a collaboration between Alison Lester and Jane Goodwin.

SCIENCE
The children continued with their animal inquiries, researching and working on presentations about their chosen animal. These will be presented in turn by the students to the rest of the class over the coming days. We will be learning about lots of fascinating mammals, reptiles, birds and bugs.

MATHEMATICS
We continued to work on developing a range of strategies which we can draw upon when answering addition calculations. We rolled two, three or four dice creating TU, HTU or ThHTU numbers, which we then added using at least two different strategies. Some brave students modelled strategies at the front of the class for their peers to observe – thanks for your great teaching Ekmann, Jasper, Michael and Tanish.

Here are some examples of different strategies used today:

We welcomed Mr Pearce to our double during Lesson 3. He will be supporting us in our learning each week on Wednesdays & Thursdays, plus working with some of us individually on Fridays. Today Mr Pearce was very impressed with Mason’s mathematics, and he was particularly impressed with the fact that when Mason’s additions in the ones or units column bridged ten, Mason persevered to work out solutions, learning from his mistakes.

FITNESS
Mr Lennon led us in a game of tag. Each time we were tagged we had to do either ten push ups or ten star jumps to agin re-entry into the game.

CLASS NOVEL
We read more about the grumpy, mean Mr and Mrs Twit – and the terrible tricks they play on each other – as we continued to enjoy more of Roald Dahl’s short novel, The Twits.

Taking inspiration from the chapter ‘Wormy Spaghetti’, the students then worked in pairs to design a menu fit for Mr Twit. There were some disgusting entrees, main dishes and desserts on offer. Thank you to Ryley, Leo, Jason, Max and Sonny for sharing their menus with the whole class.

PMD

Today we swapped Thursday’s PMD to Wednesday afternoon. It was a laptop week, but lots of us chose to engage with other activities too.

Thanks to Deeksha, Ekmann and Ravleen for taking the following photographs:
