Monday (Term 2 | Week 5)

Welcome to Week 5!

Today we received a message and some photographs from Mrs Stam, who is currently taking some long service leave to enable her to go on holiday with her family. She told us she had been on a jet boat, visited a crocodile farm and been on a horse ride through a rainforest and along a beach … all in north Queensland.

ENGLISH: READING WORKSHOP

First up this morning, we shared the story of Kate and the Beanstalk. Mary Pope Osborne and Giselle Potter’s funny, magical retelling of a favourite fairy tale featuring Kate, a new and inspiring heroine.

Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum’un,
I smell the blood of an Englishwoman.
Be she alive or be she dead,
I’ll grind her bones to make my bread.

We noticed that the story had many features if an adventure story. Here’s what we came up:

GROWTH MINDSET

We carried on learning about our amazing brains as we delve ed into the ‘Mysterious World of Neurons’.

We also watched some inspiring stories about people who have a growth mindset in the face of some obstacles in their lives:

ENGLISH: WRITER’S WORKSHOP

We continued learning about adventure stories with a particular focus on planning. Today Mrs Handforth modelled using a storyboard with words and pictures to plan, using the framework ‘One day … someone …. but …. then ….’.

Thank you to MasonRyley, Amanda and Carmelo for sharing their writing during our reflection circle.

FITNESS BREAK

MATHEMATICS

We enjoyed a Kahoot! quiz with Mrs Norris focusing on the learning we have undertaken on maps, coordinates and keys/legends.

In the afternoon we had Sport and Spanish.
