Wednesday (Term 2 | Week 1)

Welcome to Wonderful Wednesday!

Here’s our learning line up today:

LIBRARY

Today’s library text was a lovely rhyming text called Yoga Babies by Fearne Cotton.

Rex, Prakash, Maya, Emily and Winnie are yoga babies: downward dog, bridge, cat pose and even just touching your toes to your nose – they can do them all. Whether it’s practising tree pose in the garden with Dad or amusing themselves with a stretch while mum has a bath, these toddlers are learning that yoga is fun for everyone – and helps to make happy babies at bedtime, too!

Mrs Handforth’s group practised their favourite yoga move from the book:

LITERACY ACTIVITY: GROUP 1

Today, students in this group were working with Mrs Handforth  to create a visual story map of the main events in the story of ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’. We viewed the story again, pausing to record the main events (things that happened) in the story. Mrs Handforth shared her story map of the events with the children.

LETTERS AND SOUNDS: GROUP 2

Today in ‘Letters and Sounds’ we continued to build up our knowledge of graphemes (letters) and phonemes (sounds). Today’s focus was on the letter ‘e’ when it makes the short sound /e/.

We learned a new action for this letter/sound … saying the sound as we make the action helps our brains to remember it better.

Singing a song also helps us remember better! Today’s was a fun tune with easy lyrics to learn.

We also practised writing the letter ‘e’ whilst saying to ourselves: ‘Around the egg and under the eggcup.’

NUMERACY

Maths Mini: Subitising.

Mrs Papillo showed the students some visual images of dots and the children had to recognise and name the number of dots as quickly as possible. Then she scrambled the patterns to make it more challenging, but we had some very eagle-eyed students who were still able to quickly and accurately say how many altogether. Ayan told us that there were ‘three groups of four’ and that this ‘makes twelve’. Fantastic, Ayan!

SCIENCE/ART

This afternoon we discovered more about ‘Autumn in Australia’, part of our learning about seasonal changes.

After this we embarked on a scene/art activity recording some of our observations and learning about autumn through the medium of art-work. The children were invited to use a range of media and skills to make autumn art work.
