Wednesday’s Home Learning (T4|W7)

Welcome to WONDERFUL Wednesday!

Here’s some home learning for you to try today.

LITERACY

The Jolly Postman delivers cards and letters to various fairy-tale characters. He has a letter of apology for the three bears from Goldilocks, a postcard from Jack for the giant, a solicitor’s letter on behalf of Little Red Riding-Hood for the wolf who ate grandma, and so on. There are six envelopes in the book, each containing letters, cards, and so on.

Here’s a story map that Mrs Handforth created:
  • INVITATION
In the story Baby Bear is 8. Imagine you are planning a celebration for yourself or a fairy tale character. Design  an invitation to invite someone you know or another fairytale character to the celebration. Remember to say: who the invitation is for, what the occasion is, when it  is, where it is and who the invitation is from. Here’s one Mrs Handforth made:

RECESS

NUMERACY

Hello reception children, you may like to have try at the activity below.  You can draw up your own table similar to the one below. Place your answers in the boxes.

Hello year 1 children, have a try at the activity below and you can draw up a similar table to place you answers in.  Once finished with the number 10, have a try at choosing your own number.  Happy calculating!

PLAY INVESTIGATIONS

As always, play should involve doing something you enjoy. These are just ideas to try out at home:

WATER PLAY CHALLENGE
Find some objects that float. Try moving them out of a bowl of water into another container or just onto the ground using just your FEET.

CONSTRUCTION CHALLENGE
Using lego or any other construction materials you have, create something that will make you and others feel happy, such as a rainbow!

LUNCH

SCIENCE

Investigate: Does ice melt quicker in salt water or fresh water?

You will need:

  • 2 ice cubes  – coloured ice cubes work best (use a drop of food colouring when you make your ice cubes)
  • 2 plastic cups (or similar container)
  • water
  • salt
  • spoon

To make this a fair test try to use: the same size ice cubes, the same amount of water, the same size container. The variable is the salt.
