Rocket Writing

Time for our writers to shine. I am so proud of everyone today – they really tried hard to write as much as they could. This is why we had treasure box today 🙂

After watching the clip we reflected upon the different parts of a story –

Beginning  – The witch was flying on a broom with the dog and the cat.

Middle – problem – The witch lost her bow.

End – The  bird found the bow and was happy.

Money Investigations

What is money?

Laura -Money is things so you can buy with it.

Abraham – Money is not always a circle.

Jerry – Money it to buy toys.

Jed – Money can have different colours.

Bior – Money is what can buy with if you have a lunch order.

Where have you used money?

Keth – You use money to buy things at the shop.

Tina – You use money to buy things at the canteen

How do we get money?

Harper- From the bank.

Adum – You get money when you work.

Jordan – You get money when buy something and then they give you money – change.

Eann – From purse.

Senay – Money is for buying things from the shops.

Mya – you get money from your pocket.

Tell me about the different types of money?

Hendrix – There is green money and gold money and silver.

Emily – There is  coins and paper.

Jordan – Money is rectangles.

Annabelle – There is a Queen on the paper money.

Jed  – Money can have different numbers and pictures.

Abraham – 10 dollars means 1000 cents.

Adum – The different numbers mean how much it is.

Friday – Week 7 – Term 2

Welcome to a fantastic Friday.

Today we welcome Harper to our class, we hope you have lots of fun learning in R1 MR Harper.

Alexa – It has past laptop day.

Ishpreet – It was the Queen’s birthday but it was past.

Elnathan – There ar 18 more days until Owen’s birthday.

Starting our day with a song gives the children time to greet each other and organise their belongings ready to start reading.

What is an emergency?

Bibi – When it is a fire.

Jordan – When someone breaks into your house.

Elnathan – When you get robbed.

Alexa – When someone does something bad in your house.

Adum – When someone bad happens then you call it an emergency.

Hendrix – a building falling.

Laura – When someone is being mean to you.

Annabelle – Is when you get lost.

Abraham – An emergency is when something very terrible happens.

Elnathan -when someone falls down from the tree and an ambulance comes and your family crowds around.

Jordan – An emergency is when someone is unsafe.

Ishpreet – An earth quake is an emergency.

Jerry- When someone breaks into your house.

Sometimes things happen and you need help.

Your body might give you a warning sign.

You may need to break a rule if it is an emergency (Interrupt adult conversation, make a phone call without asking or tell a secret)

Literacy Rotations

  • Put ‘ear’ words in a sentence. For example ‘I can hear a cow’ – focus spacing words out, formation, hearing the sounds/letters in words

Mya – The snake was too scary.

Hendrix – The elephant was too big.

Jerry – The snake was too naughty.

Kalil – The lion was too noisy.

Owen – The monkey was too crazy and he didn’t listen.

Ishpreet – The dog was just perfect and the person kept him.

Bior – The giraffe was too tall.

Laura – The camel was too grumpy.

Jordan – The frog was too jumpy.

Jed – The monkey was too naughty.

Elnathan – The puppy was perfect and the. man kept him and he was perfect to play.

Senay – The camel was too grumpy.

Annabelle – At the end the zoo thought hard to get the perfect animal for the person.

Elnathan – Winter is cold and it is really cold and you need to wear jumpers so you don’t get sick.

Mya – You have wear gloves so your hands don’t get cold.

Annabelle – In the winter the leaves fall off the trees.

Abraham – Evergreen never loose their leaves.

Adum – In Australia is doesn’t really snow.

Felipe – In winer water turns into ice.

Alexa – In winter it is very cold and you have to get near something really warm or eat something warm and wear jackets so you don’t sick.

Jed – in winter is about raining and some leaves fall off trees.

Hendrix – In winter some animal so to sleep, enchidna and Barts.

Tina – In winter ir is cold and we wear jackers.

Kalil – IN winter you have to wear gloves and jackets so you don’t get cold.

Jordan – It rains in winter.

Bior – In winter the windows will be covered with ice and to go outside it is so cold.

Bibi – When it is winter you can play ini the rain and the rain gives you water.

Keth – In winter you wear jackets.

Jerry – In winter your wear jumper and then your hands don’t get cold.

Eann – In winter you eat soup.

Ishpreet – In winter you need to wear warm clothes and if you have a cold you need some warm soup.

Senay – You have to get an umbrella

McKayla – In winter you wear jackets.

Laura – In winter it is cold and you need to wear warm clothes.

Wednesday – Week 7 – Term 2

Welcome to Wednesday

We started out day by welcoming the new reception children who will be transitioning to Room 5 in Term 3. The children showed, kindness and leadership as they engaged in Play Investigations together.

Literacy Rotations

The children rotated through 4 literacy based activities today:

  • Big Book shared reading
  • Play dough – fine motor skills
  • Oral language – Owl Babies retell
  • Writing task – Writing a sentence. Adding descriptive words, including full stops and capital letters, focus upon letter formation.

Research – using the laptops to build upon our knowledge about the creatures from the Mudla.

The Year 2 children supported us in the process today.

We added the new information to our observational drawing from yesterday.

We also used books to research and build upon our understandings.

Creating a Habitat for our creature in the Mudla using 100 languages.

Today during come read with me – the children were asked to find words that had the digraph ‘ow’ in their reading books. Super spotting team!

Today’s focus for our literacy rotations:

Red Group

  • Editing a text
  • Listing ‘oi’ words and constructing a sentence.

As a group we read the text –

 it woz hot day and wet to the sop to by sum ice-cream and the ice-cream woz $2 and had to ask mum four the coins and she give me to coins and I wet and buyed the ice-cream and it woz yum and then I wet hom

Then we looked for things that were wrong – words that didn’t look right OR words that didn’t make sense. Together we edited the text.

Blue Group

  • Pronouns – he, she and I
  • Literacy game – letter bingo

The children walked around the Mudla and decided which creature they would like to learn more about.

Today they extended their understandings through observation , recording and discussion. What can we notice? What do you know?

Literacy Rotations

After we read the shared text we moved into our literacy groups.

Year 1 – Exploring the digraph -‘ow’

Blending sounds within words, by playing a game outside with a ball. The ball was bounced to a partner for every sound within a word. ( c-ow – 2 bounces)

High Frequency Words – The children then bounced the ball for every letter in a high frequency word.

Reception children – creating a clown from coloured paper and then recall and writing ‘c’ words.

Today we had 5 Early Learning Centre children come for a visit to our classroom. These children will be part of the reception intake for Term 3.

The children are busy filling out their journal and weather chart this morning (as they do most mornings or afternoons). This week the Year 1 children set up the format for their recording  – having ruling up their charts yesterday. This task reinforces the days of the week and also enables the students to connect with their peers as they have a conversation  upon arrival.
