What a fantastic semester 2 of learning together in RHA and R1 MR.

We have been truly blessed to have a wonderful, motivated, kind and creative group of learning in our classes – all of which make our days of learning lots of fun. We are so proud of everyones achievements this semester, the risks you have taken in your learning and the ways your strengths shine through each day.

We will miss seeing all of your smiling faces and the cheerful good mornings which started our day – but we look forward to seeing you in the yard and around the school.

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers for your  patience during these challenging times and support through out the year.

Thank you so much for your very  thoughtful gifts, cards and messages  – we are very grateful and humbled by your generosity.

We always like to start our day in R1MR and RHA with reading during Come Read with Me. It’s been a great way of starting our day and we have seen grest progress from our readers because of this.

Today we talked about the importance of continuing reading over the holidays so that we can keep our reading up as much as we can.

Writing for different purposes

Today our blog is focussing upon writing for different purposes.

The children have been engaging with book making this semester and we have seen their confidence  as writers really grow as they take risks and have a go. The children have explored many crafting techniques as they explore many wonderful mentor text which have inspired their writing.

Today the children in RHA made cards for their buddies.

R1MR used stickers to inspire their writing as they created stories, added titles and speech bubbles.

We wonder how many different ways you can explore writing over the holidays.

We celebrate all writing  – writing can be marks, symbols, squiggles, letter, words and pictures (as they all convey meaning)

What kind of things can we give to our families that don’t cost us any money?

Adum – I could make a card out of paper.

Alexa – I could give my family love.

Mason H – I could give my family love and care.

Tesi – I could make a dance my family.

Avelyn – I could make something or make a card for them.

Annabelle – I could draw a picture of my family.

Harper – I could make an ice cream cake for my dad. I could do the laundry.

Hendrix – I could make a band and sing Dad a song.

Eann – My mum is having a baby so I help her with things.

Kunal – I help my Mum make a gift card.

The Nativity

This morning we read the story of The Nativity for our Shared Text. We then followed by re-telling the story during bookmaking.

After recess, we revisited the story by looking at a different kind of book on the screen. We then re-told the story or a part of the story with 100 languages. The children were encouraged to engage in different art mediums to represent the story or a character.

Together for the final way of listening to the story of the Nativity, we watched the following video:

We reflected about what happened in the story and why it is an important story for our lives:

Adum – there was no place for Mary and Joseph to have Baby Jesus be born so God gave them a stable.

Kunal – in the story in the night, Mary had the baby born.

Harper – I learnt that his birthday is when it’s Christmas.

Laura – I learnt how it was really long just to walk to Bethlehem.

Avelyn – The Angel said Mary was going to have a baby called Jesus.

Elnathan – The Angel’s name was Gabriel who told Mary she was going to have a baby.

Bior – Jesus was born in the Christmas story.

Kevin – The Angels showed the shepherds where to find Jesus.

Alexis – The Angel told the shepherds to go the stable.

Tesi – Baby Jesus was born in a farm.

Ellara – Mary had her baby. He was called Jesus.

Noah – Mary didn’t have a home but she just got one.

Laura – Mary was not married, she was about to be married to Joseph.

Owen – Mary was getting a baby called Jesus.

Tina – Joseph was knocking on the door and no one was letting him in.

Emily – He was knocking on the door to find a place to stay.

Eann – Joseph and Mary had to go somewhere else to have baby Jesus.

From the calendar today we noticed:

Harper – today is dining hall. I know this because there is a tick. Tomorrow is my Dad’s birthday, it is on the 4th.

Adum – one more week until school holidays.

Jerry – today is Thursday.

Anabelle – 7 more days until the last day of school.

Senay – today is sports day for R1MR

Mkcayla – it’s nearly my dad’s birthday, its on Christmas day.

Eann – on Wednesday it was one of my friend’s birthdays, it was the 2nd of December.

Book Making

Today R1MR – wrote a letter to Santa explaining how they help, share and are kind to others.

RHA – Numeracy

The children in RHA engaged in a cutting and sorting activity focussed upon the concept of size comparison.

R1MR – PE

The children in R1MR had lots of fun engaging in sport/ball activity stations. Maybe ask you child what was their favourite? Or what challenge they set themselves.

Dining Hall

The children enjoy a delicious Burger and cupcake for lunch today, kindly prepared by the lovely ladies in the canteen.

Play Investigations and Reading

Lots of creativity was observed today during play investigations  – The children were constructing themselves from paper, making shops, designing card cards, creating role plays and building towers.

During this time the teachers have also been listening to reading – Wow everyone has had an amazing reading journey this year.
