Friday – Week 6 – Term 3

Time for Fun Friday

The sun is shining, which always brings a smile to our faces

Today we start our day with assembly.

After assembly we enjoyed some fitness at around the oval before heading back to reflect upon the assembly.

The assembly was told through a story book about a girl called Lacey Lou.

The children reflected:

Felipe: She was a naughty person

Jed: She didn’t share.

Abraham: She was greedy and she didn’t share with anyone.

Harper: Her grandma

Avelyn:I saw her grandma say to be kind.

Jed: I like the soccer player at the end.

Abraham: They (the soccer player) came from Spain.

Elnathan: It was the language for the fortnight.

Emily:  which was Spanish.

Kunal: Lacey Lou was a nice girl.

Jerry: The grandma said wash your hands.

Eann: I saw my friend on the stage.

Senay: In the morning you have to wash your hands.

Bior: After you have breakfast you have to wash your hands.

We finished our day with Book Boxes.

Book box time provides a time for the children to explore a range of books, to engage in reading and oral language exchange with others.

Today we had a quick sharing session at the end, where some of the children shared their favourite book and why.

Today ask your child a question to reflect upon their day:

For example:

What did you see at the fish farm?

Who did you play with during play Investigations?

What is a syllable?

Where did you play during recess and lunch time?

Enjoy the beautiful weather over the weekend and we will see you on Monday for week 7.

Thursday – Week 6 – Term 3

Hello Everyone and welcome to Thursday

Come Read with Me.

R1 MR were encouraged to find ‘contractions in their books this morning which is a follow on from our learning yesterday, as in our shared text there is the contraction  I’m. (I’m Green and I’m grumpy)

We enjoyed watching this clip as part of our learning for yesterday

The Calendar

Our Learning

Literacy

Today we explored syllables during brain break time.

Syllables are an important part of phonological awareness.

Why Teach Syllables:
1) It helps students decode words quicker because they will be chunking sounds rather than sounding out individual letters.
2) It can help students read more fluently and accurately.
3) There are positive benefits to oral language because it helps with the pronunciation of words.
4) Helps students spell during writing times because they are breaking the word into smaller parts.

The children had fun exploring syllables using the clip below (below are a few photos of us clapping along)

RHA – Phonics – ‘f’

R1MR – Book Making

R1MR – Sports

Today R1Mr had fun in the sun during PE playing footy.

RHA – Numeracy

HASS

We shared the Aboriginal Dreamtime story ‘Why the koala has a stumpy tail’  and then reflected about how it made us feel and what we thought about the story.

What is the story about?

Tesi – The koala doesn’t want to get down from the tree

Hendrix – It is an indigenous story

Avelyn – It is in the desert, the sand and trees and colours tell me this.

The two characters in this story are the koala and the tree kangaroo.

What was the story about? What was the message

Abraham – not to be greedy and never be lazy and wait for things to appear otherwise the next time it comes you might not see it and might not get it.

Elnathan – the tree kangaroo thought of something that his mother did when he was young, so he did it too. The koala said I need a rest and he had a rest then the tree kangaroo said come and help me. Then a thorn got stuck in his leg and then he needed more sleep then the kangaroo said get up then he was dizzy and he slept again. The last time he slept the water came out and the koala got all the water and the tree kangaroo pulled his tail. Don’t be greedy because then you will not do things in your life and you won’t know how to do things in your life.

Kunal – Koala was drinking the water and the tree kangaroo was pushing him

Jed – The tree kangaroo kept digging and found water

Ishpreet – Maybe when the koala said that I’m so dizzy he was pretending because he didn’t want to do the digging
Arianna – The koala was drinking all the water and he was greedy

Alexa – The koala was faking being tired and making excuses

Then we explore the medium of collage to represent the story in a visual form.

Play Investigations – A time to engage with other through important learning dispositions, such as:

  • Collaboration
  • Problem Solving
  • Curiosity
  • Leadership
  • Communication
  • Creativity

Have a wonderful night – see you tomorrow for a fun Friday.
