The story of
Yesterday, we witnessed the final stage to the life-cycle of the Monarch Butterfly visitor we have had in class.
Just as we were starting to sit down ready to listen to our shared text, she decided it was time to emerge out of her chrysalis and prepare to fly into the world.
For the first few weeks of this term, we watched a little caterpillar eat lots and leaves and get very fat.
Then, over the quiet of the weekend she made herself a chrysalis and stayed in there for more than 2 weeks.
On Monday morning, Miss. Andersen and Mrs. Rodgers noticed that the chrysalis had turned translucent and they knew that meant it was time for a butterfly soon but they didn’t know HOW soon!
We watched the new butterfly emerge out of the chrysalis and then stretch her wings for a while. Her wings went from floppy and squashed to stiff and strong and lucky we put her outside because when she was ready she flew away and into the Holy Family gardens to start the life cycle again!
Here is a video of the complete cycle that we have witnessed this term, can you recognise each of the stages?
The next time you see a butterfly fly past, you will know the journey they have been on to get to fly!
NAIDOC Week is celebrated from the 8th – 15th of November
The theme for NAIDOC Week 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’. Recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years
Remembrance Day is on the 11th of November. It marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. A two-minute silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars, to remember their courage, bravery and sacrifice.
Diwali Festival is celebrated on November 14th
Diwali is a five day Hindu festival known as the ‘festival of lights’. It is celebrated during October or November and is one of the most popular festivals in India. During this festival, people worship Ganesha, the elephant-headed God, and Lakshmi, the goddess of light, wisdom and fortune. People celebrate by lighting small oil lamps and candles to represent good winning over evil. Firecrackers are also let off to ward off evil spirits.
(In between time we will also be practising chants ready for Sports Day on Monday – week 6)
Eann – It’s past my birthday. My birthday was on Sunday November 9th.
Annabelle – 4 more days until our assembly.
Tesi – tomorrow is laptop day and bike day.
Gurleen – tomorrow is laptop day.
Book Making – transferring knowledge of letters, words, language functions, how to convey meaning, illustrations and concepts of print into their books today.
Today we explored alliteration – it was fun to make up own alliterations as a group. Alliterations is another crafting technique used in book making to make writing fun.
Building upon the learning disposition for life long learning:

Problem Solving
Collaboration
Creativity
Leadership
Independence
