Tuesday (Term 1 | Week 6)

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Let’s fill some buckets with random acts of kindness today … what will you do for others today?

SHARED READING

Today we revisited our shared text Aliens Love Underpants, written by  author, Claire Freedman and illustrated by Ben Cort.

‘ “Aliens love underpants, in every shape and size,
But there are no underpants in space, so here’s a big surprise….”

This zany, hilarious tale is delightfully brought to life by Ben Cort’s vibrant illustrations. With a madcap, rhyming text by award-winning Claire Freedman, this is sure to enchant and amuse the whole family!
Perfect for joining in, this story is fantastically fresh and funny – you’ll laugh your pants off! ‘

Today we focused on identifying the rhyming words on each page of the text. By listening carefully and looking closely, we discovered that there was a pattern to the rhyme throughout the text.

LITERACY ACTIVITIES

Today some students were reviewing the letters and sounds we have covered so far this term. Activities involved:identifying images beginning with the sounds /s/, /a/, /t/, /p/, /i/ and /n/; blending these sounds to read CVC words and match pictures to the word, and playing a game of ‘Roll a Sound’ in pairs.

Some children worked with their teachers to write a description of their alien, whilst others were busy designing pairs of underpants for aliens.

NUMERACY

Continuing our rotations and learning about more about patterns was the focus for today’s numeracy lesson.

Liam collected some green leaves and some autumn leaves, and he glued them onto a piece of paper to make a’ leaf pattern picture’.  He and Ebony then showed their patterns to the Deputy Principal and received a special shiny award sticker for their learning. Well done, both!

FITNESS

We played the ‘Clothes Peg’ game. Every child starts off with the same number of clothes pegs on their uniform and then the dance around the room to a song. Each time they meet another student they stop and play a game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’. If they won the game, they took a peg from their peer, and if they lost the game they had to give a peg to their peer. The children had lots of fun!

In the afternoon the children enjoyed SPANISH and MUSIC. Mrs Papillo and Mrs Handforth used their non-instructional time to hear some children read 1:1 in the centre, and to carry out some formal assessments (reading records), checking students are continuing to access readers at the correct level of challenge.

Tomorrow is library – please remember to bring black reading folders with texts and readers inside!
