There are lots of speech bubbles in this book.

Perhaps  you would like to add some speech bubbles to your writing today.

Continue writing your book during book making today.

Remember to add details to your pictures.

Where is the story taking place? Make sure there are lots of details in your setting. For example, if it is in the city, are there roads, cars, buildings and people?

Olympic Games 2020 Inquiry

The Olympic Games 2021 are being held in Tokyo, Japan. Can you find Japan on a world map? You can use the map below or use Google maps with an adults help.

Here are some questions to get your thinking warmed up:

What are the Olympic Games?

Where are they held?

Who goes to the Olympic Games?

What do people do when they go to the Olympic Games?

Locate Japan and Australia on the map below:

(alternatively, use Google Maps with a helper to view a map)

Here is a map of the country Japan. Where is Tokyo?

Question: If you were to travel to Japan from Australia, how would you get there? (sea, air, land)

Many athletes have travelled to Tokyo, Japan to participate in the Olympic Games.  Here are some sports that you may know:

Which sport do you think you would be good at if you were an athlete?

Mrs Papillo thinks she would be good at hockey.  I was good at hockey when I was younger!

What character strengths do you think the sportsmen and women will need to participate in the events at the games? Have a look at the chart below with an adult and choose some together. What are your character strengths?

Here is a picture of the city of Tokyo. Can you find out the name of the mountain in the back ground of the image? Draw the mountain and name/write it  in your learning book.

View of Mt. Fuji and Tokyo skyline at dusk.

Olympic Games Fitness Break

Now choose some or all the activities below:

Remember your pencil grip that you have been practising and start at the top when begging to write the letter t.

Numeracy

Writing Number – watch the clip and practise writing your numbers in your purple books. Check that all the numbers are correct.

Finding Numbers around the house.

Draw the things in your house that have numbers on them in your purple book. Or you could collect them and then take a photo.

Here are a few of the things I found in my house. I am sure you can find lots more things and your pictures will be amazing. I wonder if you can find 10  things.

Relaxation and drawing time

Many of you enjoyed drawing a picture of a dog  on Wednesday.

Maybe today you can draw a cat using this tutorial from YouTube.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Discuss the quote with a friend, sibling or adult in your family: What makes you, you? What is special and unique about you? What character strengths do you have? What do you do well? What things are you good at?

Morning Story Time

Mrs Papillo reads a book by Mem Fox called Early One Morning. What have you eaten for breakfast this morning? Have you ever visited a farm? You can tell me about somewhere you once visited by making a book. Recently, two of the children from our class went to Mount Gambier. You could make a book about something you did one day – a visit to the dentist, a walk through the park, a car drive with you family…

English and Art

My pet Tommy

I would like to show you a picture of me and my little dog Tommy.  He is a Tenterfield Terrier, is about 30cm tall, likes food (especially chicken), chases birds and enjoys having a doggy bath in the backyard. Tommy has loved having all his family at home during the lockdown. Can you share a picture of your pet? If you do not have a pet, please share a picture of your favourite toy. You can draw a picture or take a photo. Mrs Papillo will also draw a picture of Tommy and label it, just like a diagram.

Now I have added some labels to my picture of Tommy.

Revising the letter Aa

After you have viewed the videos please practise writing the letter a in your Home Learning books and come up with a list of words containing the letter a. I bet you can write at least 2 sentences as well. Happy writing!

Maths and counting

Here is Tommy with his toys, can you count his toys? How many toys do you have at home? Go and count them and record the number of toys you have in you Home Learning Book.

Tommy has 9 toys altogether.

Next,  you can use the picture below to make some of your own caterpillars. You can make the caterpillars as long as you like and then write the number next to each one when they are finished. You can use pencils or paints to make your caterpillars.

STORY-TIME

Today we are going to listen to a story called ‘Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack’ by Lynley Dodd.  Please click on the link for an introduction by Mrs Papillo.  Happy reading!

Hairy Maclary & Zachary Quack intro

Here is a great website for you to explore with an adult:

https://kids.nationalgeographic.com

You may like to choose an animal from the videos, watch it and try to remember 3 facts about that animal that you can tell an adult.  Try drawing the animal and the place it lives (its habitat).

Come Read With Me

Choose one of you readers to read out loud to an adult. What is your favourite part? Why?

Now, draw you favourite part from your reader. You can write some labels for the picture you draw or have a try at writing a sentence.

The page below is from a book I have just finished reading about crabs. The crab is stuck and if he does not get out in time he may get eaten by a large bird.

Prayer for the end of day:

Have a lovely weekend and keep safe.
