Tomorrow we will be celebrating the Moon Lantern Festival.

Information about the day-

The Moon Lantern Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival is a popular harvest festival celebrated when the moon is at its fullest and brightest.

At Holy Family we will be celebrating the Moon Lantern Festival on Friday 24th September 2021.

On Friday, students may wear traditional or cultural clothing. If not, the students can wear their normal school uniform.

56MS and RTJ will host the assembly, highlighting cultural aspects of the Moon Lantern Festival. Activities will include a lion dance, Asian dance and sharing of cultural information. The winners of the Lantern Making Competition will also be announced at the assembly.

Please note that due to COVID-19 restrictions, families and friends are not able to attend the assembly.

 

 

Library-

Tomorrow is our last borrowing day for the term. Please make sure all books are brought to school tomorrow, so that your child can borrow new books for the holidays.

Soccer clinics- Today we had the pleasure of having the students from SEDA college come to Holy Family again, to run some soccer clinics. There were 4 different stations, with a different activity at each station. Each student had a turn at each of the stations.

Numeracy-

Today in numeracy, we had another problem solving activity. The children had to visually represent the following question:

Sonic went on a treasure hunt and found a treasure chest. It had 20 gold coins inside. He wants to share the gold coins evenly with his 3 friends, Pikachu, Elsa and Snow White. Draw a picture of each character and share the 20 coins out evenly.

Numeracy- Today, we asked the students 2 problem solving questions, after watching the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The questions were;

How many pieces of fruit did the hungry caterpillar eat through, altogether, on the weekdays? (Mon-Fri)

How many pieces of food did the hungry caterpillar eat through, altogether, on all days?

The students had to work out their answers and represent it visually.

Numeracy- Today, we read the story, One is a Snail, Ten is a Crab. We spoke about how many legs different animals have. The provocation: We asked the students to create their own zoo. The challenge was to make the zoo with any animals, but there could only be 20 legs altogether. Here is what they came up with:

Today, we had some senior students from SEDA College come to Holy Family to run some soccer clinics for the children. The children in RPN and RMR learnt many soccer skills and had the opportunity to play some mini skill games. They had a lot of fun!

Technologies- We continued our learning about food. We had a look at the canteen price list and discussed the types of food that the canteen sells. We then spoke about foods that the students would want to see in the canteen, but that the canteen does not sell. Here are the foods that the children want to see at the canteen:

Tell us about winter…

Esrom- Winter is cold.

Malika- In winter you need to wear warm clothes.

Kevin- Winter is really cold.

Matilda- In Poland it snows in winter.

Avelyn- There is wind in winter.

Vedan- If you don’t wear warm clothes you’ll get a cold.

Ryder- When it’s cold you need to wear your snow clothes.

Andreas- There is lots of rain.

Matilda- The plants grow.

Aria- The bees come.

Mason L- It gets hotter.

Kevin- Spring is lovely and it has lovely plants.

Avelyn- In summer you get sweaty.

Luciano- In summer I play in the garden.

Helena- I go to the beach at summer.

Numeracy: Today we continued our work to do with time. We focused on the days of the week. We thought about the different things that we do on each day. Students then were able to draw something that they do on each day.

What do we know about Saturday and Sunday?

Helena- We do not go to school.

Esrom- On Sunday I go to church.

Reign- On Sunday, I go to the park.

Krisha- On Sunday I might have a picnic.

Kevin- I go to the park on Saturday.

Kunal- I go to the trampoline park on Sunday.

Reid- My birthday is on a Saturday.

Alexander- On Saturday I go to the movies.

Malika- On Sunday I go to the park.

Reid- I play video games on Saturday.

Quan- I go the movies on the weekend.

Roman- I go to swimming lessons on Saturday.

Word Study- Today, we reinforced learning around the letter k. We practised writing the letter k and also wrote some words beginning with a k. We then wrote some sentences about a king. Students were encouraged to create their own sentences.
